I’ll be following this also, mainly because of the micro OLED screen and portability, though not having high hope about their software, tracking or support.  Imagine if Valve, Meta, Samsung or even HP pushes out a headset with similar panel it’d be game over for these guys…and there is a good chance that we will see more OLED VR headsets in the near future too.

The Kickstarter begins.

arpara™: World’s First 5K Micro-OLED All-in-One VR Headset by arpara™ — Kickstarter

Shipping date is March which is a couple of months away.

The pros of this device are micro OLED panels with give excellent image quality (people who have it said IQ is much better than the G2), pancake lens which yield no glare and better edge-edge clarity, small and light form factor great for watching 3D or VR movies or playing console games.  The cons would be the 70Hz refresh at 5K res, flimsy build quality (from people who already have it--already available in Asia), extra cost for SteamVR tracking module and DP 1.4 cable, ?support/future from an unknown company.  Like the Aero, the tethered model currently doesn't support AMD GPU (probably due to using NVIDIA's DSC tech).

The tethered version will definitely be better for flightsims (more bandwidth).  According to MRTV, the brightness is somewhat poor even though the black level is phenomenal, so in games with bright scenes it may not look as good as typical LCD headset.  Of course in dark scenes it will blow everything else away.  There's also an issue with motion smoothing which is currently not supported, but can probably be added via software.  He saw better fps with this headset compared to others, but of course without motion smoothing algorithm your fps will be higher.
