Yeah. You should see an "L" to the right of the "ARM" on the HUD plus another on the 5 o'clock position of the TGP format. Pulling the gun trigger to half or full action will fire the laser and "L" will blink.

Thanks Fred...  I'm getting the 'L' designation in the HUD, but pulling the trigger doesn't fire the laser.. (no blinking L).  I'm a bit dumbfounded as to why not.

Just to be sure, do you have the Laser armed?

About carrier ops: "The younger pilots are still quite capable of holding their heads forward against the forces. The older ones have been doing this too long and know better; sore necks make for poor sleep.'

It's because the the laser fires on first stage of the trigger, not second stage. Naturally in real life squeezing the trigger all the way also fires the laser. Because my joystick trigger does both buttons when applying the trigger fully I don't notice this effect.

Anyway, it should be logged as a bug so here's a track of the laser failing to fire when only second stage trigger is used.

Thanks to All,

Just checked again and yes, the first trigger detent is mapped (I'm using a Thrustmaster Cougar). Earlier I suspected the two-stage trigger might have been an issue, so carefully tried firing the laser again using only the first stage, then the second. It didn't appear to fire either way. To confirm: when opening the control mapping... upon pulling the trigger to the first detent, it highlights "Camera/Gun Trigger-First Detent", so assume this is the correct mapping?

Yes, it should jump highlight to first detent on the first half of trigger motion and jump highlight to second detent. The highlight jump occurs when a new down context event occurs. You won't be able to tell if upon pressing the second detent if the first detent remains pressed or not using DCS's control menu. If the laser doesn't work on full trigger action then you know it's changing output instead of adding. Also you can look at joy.cpl in Windows to see how the buttons are being processed by Windows (or any realtime joystick monitor). DCS expects that both buttons are status ON when trigger is at full action.
