Which gpu?

I've read, some say 3080ti is better for flight sim gaming than 3090, which is confusing to me, when the 3090 has 2x memory...comments?

Anybody that can’t source or afford a 3090 is going to say the 3080 is better, it’s human nature. 
that said, I’m not sure if dcs cares about which. It seems like it just does its own thing and from what I can read, works awesome for some and terribly for others all things semi equal.
  Just my 2cents.

Thanks, probably should have said for DCS for sure, but also MSFS 2020, in VR.

In the past year I have had my hands on a AMD 6800xt, and a Nvidia 2080ti, 3080 and a 3080ti. Not for my own rig I have fitted these for friends etc.

So I am talking from experience. A Nvidia 3090 as of today is the king of the GPU's especially for flight simulators like DCS and MSFS. A 3080ti comes very close to the 3090 in FPS games, in some I think its slightly ahead. However a 3090 vs a 3080 it would be no contest in DCS 3090 would win hands down. 

Flight sims do need the raw processing power of a GPU, they also benefit from larger memory bus width and larger and faster Vram. These higher quality terrains take a lot of rendering etc. Dont kid yourself when buying a GPU for DCS or MSFS, buy the correct one for the resolution you want to use and buy the right one once. Especially when you consider today market.

They are so close the only time that would be true is if you were comparing an AIB 3080Ti like a FTW3 or STRIX card vs an FE 3090 due to the increased power limits. If you're comparing AIB vs AIB or FE vs FE 3090 wins every time.
