Howdy,

Got my brother's quest 2 pretty much new 3 weeks ago, at first it worked flawlessly...but for a week now now it lags on DCSW (including the UI screen), other VR games as well.  Both on air link and cable link (speed 1.9gbps).  In DCS with the Hornet I am getting good FPS, 20-30, but serious lag in the cockpit, dont really notice it outside though.

It does not lag outside games on the Oculus home dashboard etc.

I have tried everything known, quest and pc settings.  Even tried a factory reset of the headset itself in case a firmware issue.

Is it possible there is a hardware issue with the headset that may need a RMA?

Thoughts please.

Well in this case since it is not just DCS Lagging I would contact Quest 2 support and ask them or their Forums..

I can possible help is the cable a cheap copy or the actual link cable or is it a capable cable..

Link cable is usb3.1 giving me 1.9Gbps on speed test.  Issue also happens on Air Link though.

I have tried many refesh rates and res combos, even dialed way down the issue happens.

Surely I'm not the only person here having this trouble...?  Was working the first week at the end of November and then this problem started so it's got to be from an oculus update or windows or dcsw update.

BTW can I run a stand alone DCS on a Steam VR with Oc2?

Yes just need to tell DCS to use steamVR instead of Oculus.
How you do that...is it add -force steamvr to the DCS.exe command line?
I just use Skate Zillas excellent launcher app where you can pick which VR api to use.
YMMV, but I have tried both steamVR & Oculus and despite all the goodness of FSR  I always end up returning to Oculus with my Quest 2.

I hope you figure it out - I will never go back to a 2d screen. Once you get over the jaggies & acceptable framerates, VR just rocks

Its in the app settings tab. You can pick steamVR or Oculus in the VR interface settings:

Fixed.  OMFG.  I have learned more about VR than I wanted to.

90 refresh 3264x1648, SS 2.0 via OTT, butter smooth.

Will detail later, time to fly.

well I for one would love to hear what you learned?? seems like that would be counterproductive but you are saying it works butter smooth with those settings?

If it's running butter smooth with SteamVR and not with the Oculus API, something is off.

I am also curious to know what the issue was and how you fixed it.

OK.

What seems to have resolved it is installing a slew of optional updates for W10, a few intel port updates, should have screen shotted them.  So, always install those updates (you could always roll them back if they cause trouble).

So, currently running 72Hz/3616x1840 (auto setting), OTT SS 1.8, ASW Mode 30 Hz, CPU pri high detection Timer GPU Scaling off, link distortion low, encode res 3648, bit rate 300, smooth as glass and cockpit is clear at 1024 res.

Also running OVR Server (not overtop of the sim window, doesnt seem to matter).

What did I learn?  VR FPS are different than 2d monitor FPS.  I am getting a solid locked 24FPS (one-third of the 72Hz) and its all good.  I was too focused on pushing FPS as high as I could and didnt need to.

I am totally at a loss at understanding what you are seeing but FPS is FPS and ASW needs a specific minimum and you are honestly the first person I have ever seen that thinks 24fps is good for VR. I know find 40fps barely tolerable with ASW. But hey who cares as long as you are happy with it and am glad you have found something that suits you.

In VR Im locked at 24FPS, SS1.85 via OTT, cockpit is almost perfectly clear and butter smooth.  IMHO FPS is not FPS, 2d versus VR.

FPS is always FPS and your eyes are seeing 72fps, not 24 because ASW is doing the work.

But still you are right, you can get smooth game play from that crappy FPS so thanks for the learning experience.

I just went and tested that on my rig and the 30Hz in OTT seems to actually mean around 33%. Something I did not think the rift S could work with. Also if I use the Oculus Hotkeys they actually equate to Auto, half, half locked with no ASW and off. There is no 1/3 option so if I hit those hotkeys in game I will wipe out the 33% OTT can do and it goes back to 50% which is the lowest those hotkeys will do. It also appears I need to restart the game to get back to the "30hz" or the real value 33% and that on mine means that if DCS can spit out 27FPS solid I will get a nice smooth game play at an apparent 80fps in my HMD.

So thanks for the heads up. A lot of artifacts (What I thought your were calling ghosts) but it is smooth as with a lot more stuff dialed up so maybe I can get used to it. All the screwing around I did trying to help you (Though I clearly didn't understand) did show me an 80FPS flyby on my rig was something I wish it could pull at these settings all the time. Glorious.

Tried it for a while, smooth with lots of graphics but the artifacts where way to harsh for me in a lot of situations. It is however perfect in ATS so thanks for that. Max everything at 2.0... nice. I never would have tried without this thread. Thanks for the offer as well but at this point it is doubtful as I have a bit of a medical condition that can be, lets say problematic, to be nice haha.
