Not sure if this is a bug as my SAM knowledges end just about >>>here.

If Iran is selected the TIN shield SR is not in the Air defence options list. For coutries such as Syria and Russia the units does exist.

I assume the Tin sheild is required to make the site work as intended even if there is some dispute about whether or not it is the correct unit.

The Tin Shield isn't the correct unit for the SA-5, even for Syrian SA-5s (which I think are S-200VEs/SA-5bs). The actual acquisition RADAR the SA-5 uses is the 5N84A/5N84AE (P-14F) 'Oborona-14' [Tall King C], which is paired with a PRV-13/17 for height-finding and either an NRZ-14 (Kremniy-2) or Parol system for IFF.

I've done several posts about it here, here and here.

The Tin Shield is associated with the S-300 system, with the Big Bird being its direct successor, though it has also found a common use as a general purpose EWR.

In the meantime you can use the P-19 RADAR for it (though that is most associated with the S-125M/SA-3b, with the P-12M being most associated with the SA-2).

Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.

Terrains I own: South Atlantic, Syria, The Channel, SoH/PG, Marianas.

Thanks Northstar - I saw you other posts about it. Very informative.

Ive always been very "a.b.c" and followed the DCS set up of the SAM sites (hence the OP). Are you saying that I am able to use any search radar (within reason) and the site will still work?  The reason I ask is that the SA-5 tends to be a aminstay of my Skynet IADS set up for maps various.

I'm not sure about any RADAR (though once we get IADS functionality, we should be able to use any RADAR, though that'll be a different set up where we have remote EWR stations, which then communicate to a centralised command centre, which then passes on targetting information to air defences), but In DCS, the P-19 can definitely be used as an acquisition RADAR for the SA-5 at present.
