Paradise Lost : Mission 8 : soldier run into rotors

Hi,

I tried mission 8 now two times and decided now to skip the mission within the lua file.

Each time after I startup the engine a soldier runs directly into the rotor and die. This is stated as friendly fire and I lost at end all my points ( if in not kill dcs 😉 ).

Thats the replay of the moment:

 

Do I something wrong, is my timing bad or is it just a 'feature' ? 🙂

The pathfinding of the ground ai has been broken for over a year in DCS. you set up a route for them in the editor and they completely ignore it and run/drive around, often going through your helo or plane. Nothing to do about that, certainly don’t skip the mission because of it.

I think I was not exact enough.. of course I flew this nice mission, but at end of the mission I stopped dcs and changed lua file with my points I got 🙂

You think there is no solution for that ?.. possible let run the soldiers a different way ? I just wonder that it happens two times for me and that I not see reports from other users about this.

Yeah, as I said, the AI ground units sometimes completely ignore the path set for them. So if I go ahead and change the path then it will be that path they'll ignore.

ED should fix the AI to

1) follow their path

2) even if they deviate, they should avoid running through aircraft.

This is not something I have control over within the mission editor. I could just remove most ground units, but I won't do that. It's supposed to work.

yep.. at least fixing the Kamikaze soldiers would be nice, or that it is no longer stated as friendly fire if the soldier was the blind and deaf guy 🙂 

 

But I also never noticed such a behavior in other missions ( in this or other campaigns ) and so I also opened the mission within the mission designer ( nope, I'am not an expert here ).

In mission 8 I see following:

A quick check of the other missions show me, that seemingly nowhere a soldier is as near at the heli as in mission 8

e.g 3 and 9

May be these one unit near by the heli can be removed or moved to another position. It seems its position is exactly where the Huey is , in special because the Huey have a different angle as in mission designer.  But as mentioned.. may be I'am wrong here 🙂

The soldier that's close, he's the one telling you about the mission. then he walks away and never comes back. The pair of soldiers, they are supposed to walk back and forth along their path, but they wander around mindlessly. Those are giving you the problems. As I said, I could spend weeks placing them a little further - a little closer, trial and error, they walk around totally randomly. It's not worth my time. It should be worth the AI programmer's time, because it's an issue that's been reported for over a year.

ah.. I thought these soldier was the bad guy 🙂  ..  

Users should just aware that it can happen and that they can lost in this way all points..  May be is just a "timing thing" and users can wait till the soldier is far away 🙂 

That we get a AI which is a bit more "intelligent" would be of course the best solution.

yep same last night, I here the tail rotor chopping something up and then got a "lost all battle stats". Now I'm not that precious about my stats but not really my fault the NPC is blind.

I think I have had some similar issues where you have to keep a close eye on the ground crew when taking off etc..
