Hi, I was just downloading the new update a moment ago and encounter this bug.
I can't complete the update, and can't play the game anymore.

EDIT: Nevermind, somehow restart the computer solved the problem.

It never helped.

This happened to me more than once when I ran the updater after a DCS crash. Apparently, some files remain "locked" by the system. Restarting the PC is the only way I found to fix this.

Hmm interesting, though PLAAF's issue seems to have been fixed.

As another alternative, you might be able to manually delete the file and then try again.

Yeah, because PLAAF restarted his/her PC 🙂

As I said, the file is locked, can't delete it manually:

I should probably find a way to "unlock" it, but it's easier to just reboot.

It doesn't look like it's locked, but is open in DCS (probably running in the background)

Ending tasks associated to DCS should close it.

Nope, no DCS-associated tasks in the Task Manager.

Moreover: Resource Monitor, LockHunter, OpenedFilesView, Process Explorer, ListDLLs and a couple other apps I just tried all say this file is not used/locked by any process. Double-checked the file and folder permissions - they're not the culprit either.

Antivirus restricts access to DCS files in 98% of such cases. What antivirus program do you use? Are the files E:\DCS World Openbeta\bin\DCS.exe and E:\DCS World Openbeta\bin\DCS_updater.exe (or the entire E:\DCS World Openbeta folder) on your antivirus exclusion list?
Try to temporarily disable antivirus and run the update again.

I'm not using antivirus, defender, UAC and whatnot.

As said, it happens only if I had a DCS crash earlier (in the current Windows session). Could be any bin\*.dll, not just the ed_sound.dll.

The Windows Defender is turned on automatically in the absence of any third-party antivirus. Are you additionally disabling the Defender?

Yep, everything that is built-in is disabled, and I'm not using any 3rd party anti-virus apps.
