AI escort fighters break formation and engage AWACS

Hello

I have created a mission to defend a SAM site against SEAD flight. Blue coalition has an AWACS support. Enemy SEAD flight has 3 Su-24s and spawns north of Mozdok, and also has an escort flight of 3 MiG-29s. The problem is that escort fighters, once detected by the AWACS plane, break formation, speed up and try to attack AWACS plane despite it's way beyond the interception range defined in "Advanced Actions". The problem disappears when I change RoE param to "Return Fire" - not a good solution, since I want the escort to be aggresive (against my Viper flight, not the AWACS).

I have attached a mission file. No need to start up the Viper, the behavior of escort can be observed on F-10 map. I unchecked "Late activation" of Red Coalition planes for testing purposes.

Thank you Ironhand, now it's really better. So the trick is to select bombers for escort and then reset the task to "NOTHING" wchich makes the fighters keep their heading.

The escort planes fly a bit faster and move ahead of escorted bombers. They attack after detection of my flight, but I am not sure if they protect the bombers or themselves.

In a flight of more than a single escort, 1 will fly to the front while the remainder of the flight will fly behind the escortee. In the event of attack, the guy out front counters, while the others fly merrily along behind the escortee. They don’t counter until they themselves come under attack. At least that’s what I’ve seen when I worked on JetJake76’s mission. I’m assuming that’s the usual behavior.
