Recently I stumbled upon this:

https://books.google.pl/books?id=oeJuJtjK4k0C&pg=SA1-PA22&lpg=SA1-PA22&dq=phantom+buddy+refuel+pod&source=bl&ots=N0bmwopeIN&sig=ACfU3U3IAyB92A2UbX1nggKasgaT02FxGw&hl=pl&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiGw_rWsOP1AhVppYsKHafWB_AQ6AF6BAgcEAM#v=onepage&q=phantom buddy refuel pod&f=false

Basically it shows that navy phantoms had the ability to carry buddy refueling pods. Do we know if HB is goin to implement that as well (obviously not in the E version, but later on)

Unlikely, as the buddy pod wasn't used on Phantoms in practice. The airplane was too fuel-critical on itself and it hence made no sense as a tanker. Especially when other more capable tankers (e.g. KA-3B, KA-6D) were around or attackers (A-6 and A-7) could be fitted with buddy-stores and transfer more fuel.

So ein Feuerball, JUNGE!

If the code is implemented, then it should have it, even if these pods largely went unused. That said, it would require some changes to the core engine for that to be possible.

But both A7 and A6 will also require these changes, and both HB and FlyingIron expressed the desire to have pods on these

That's not on them, though, but on ED. Who will get to it when they get to it, as with everything. 🙂 There was some talk about looking at tanker code, hose physics in particular, but you know how it is with getting ED to work on core features.

I would and have expressed support and enthusiasm for player flown tankers for awhile now.
