Are mods for open beta only?

Hey everyone,  I tried installing two helo mods today little bird and the blackhawk but when I launched it said something about not being allowed to use them (I dont exactly remember). I installed them in the mods/aircraft folder. Do I have to use open beta to use mods?

it depends on the mod... from memory shouldnt those mods go in the saved games folder... it usually says in the readme

Mods work on either version as long as the game runs on the compatible version. But if it says following modules are unauthorized, then it means you installed them wrong.

And yes, they do go in /saved games/dcs/mods/aircraft or tech, depending on what type of mod.
