NBee Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 Training BFM with Ai MIG 21 and found that this I hard especially when the R-60M are in use. It seems that the Ai-MIG don’t need any lead when using R-60M see the last 08 sec of the attached Tacview file. I Know that Ai flight model is hard to align to the “real world” and that AI are expert marksmen but that R-60M can be that effective is a surprise. 03 BFM f5 vs Ai MIG 21.zip.acmi
ED Team NineLine Posted February 15, 2022 ED Team Posted February 15, 2022 Do you by chance have the track? My initial thoughts are that if you had not pulled so hard and bled so much speed, the missile very well could have flown behind you. NBee Posted February 15, 2022 Author Posted February 15, 2022 unfortunately, I don’t have the DCS track file. You are quit right the missile will be able to follow and hit if it is locked on a target that are doing 200 kt TAS pulling 5g at 2 km range no problem. The problem in this case is that Ai can locked on and send a missile when the target “me” is 25-30 degrees off boresight without pulling lead. Also, according to the open sources (WWW) the R-60M should only be able to acquire targets that are 17-20 degrees off boresight. I have attached a short mov that shows the issue (Seen from the MIG HUD) So, when flying defensive and you have an Ai Mig 21 on your 6 keep him at least 35 degrees off. 720p.mp4
