Hawke81 Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 (edited) So with the lack of and probable expense of a collective I decided to have a go at building my own from some spares parts around the house. Took a couple of days of soldering and fitting but works really well considering after testing with the Huey. Yeah its a bit crude but has given me a collective with numerous buttons and two spare axis. At some point Ill be cutting the side of the throttle and linking it directly to the collective so its all hidden and internal but haven't figured that bit out yet and might add a small hydraulic rod underneath to make it a bit more stable. Very clever! Who cares if it's crude. If it works, it works. And as for aesthetics, if you use VR, it won't bother you System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
Viper1970 Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 (edited) Very cool idea. And who cares how things look like if they work. At my last cockpit I used all kind of things to be able to make some aircraft parts. I did not have the money for a 3D printer back those days, cause at this time they were really expensive. Even coke bottle caps cutted down in size a bit, glued together, sanded and painted, served as the knob at the and of my gear lever. And after sanding and painting it really looked nice. So there is always time for cosmetics later, first it has to do it's job. Dogmanbird Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 (edited) That's great! I love seeing clever ideas for using existing stuff laying around. I kind of did the same thing with my spare handbrake. Edited June 19, 2022 by Dogmanbird
