vishkar Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 Please help with the above topic. i just don't hit the GAZ truck often though I fly very low at 350 kts speed. vhk1210@gmail.com
Bunny Clark Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Flying low isn't usually helpful, the shallower your attack the more spread out your bullets will be along the ground. A steeper dive angle will concentrate the rounds in a tighter circle. Usually strafing is done at around a 30° dive. Place the pipper on the target, wait for IN RNG to appear when the range bar reaches the bottom of the pipper, then squeeze the trigger. 1 Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. vishkar Posted March 6, 2022 Author Posted March 6, 2022 Thanks Bunny! Also where is the SHUT DOWN procedure given? Thanks in advance.
vishkar Posted March 29, 2022 Author Posted March 29, 2022 In a hostile environment, don't we expose our a/c to AA guns and GA missiles by flying at a few thousand feet? i started doing 2-3 passes from different directions at low levels ( say 300'-400' AGL). I got better results, but at a shallow angle, the reticle dips below the HUD view. ( while doing free flight Weapons module). Any advice is welcome. Thanks all.

If the threat profile dictates you flying low level, then you might consider a pop up attack. So you gain the benefit of the low level whilst allowing proper weapon employment. Side note, I can imagine you being at a much greater risk of AAA fire at a few hundred feet than simply flying above them. 1 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
maxTRX Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 (edited) Now, after all good instructions you have received Vishkar... a word of caution: If you select A/G guns after any JDAM's, GBU24 or possibly one or two other A/G weapons, your gun's CCIP reticle will point below the actual impact point. As a band aid, I select manual reticle, leave it at 0 dep. then roll in on a target keeping my velocity vector at around 20 deg. (other angle is fine) on top of a target diamond. (target should be designated). Once within 1.5 nm from target, I slowly bring the gun reticle on target and by the time I squeeze the trigger (for 1 or 2 sec.) the range is around 1 nm or just below. Works every time. This bug has been reported long time ago. Edited March 31, 2022 by Gripes323
vishkar Posted March 31, 2022 Author Posted March 31, 2022 Thank you all. I am just over two yr old into flying SH. Learning with just about 65 hrs, 370 landings.

Well, whether you mean Hornet or (the other) Super Hornet... keep at it . Hopefully ED will pay more attention to this Hornet soon.
maxTRX Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 A quick example of what to be aware of when using guns after JDAMs:
Napillo Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I'll say also choose the right ammo type (it won't be detected, you have to do that) - the SAPHEI ammo flies faster, so the bullets would hit above the target if you have the wrong ammo type selected.

vishkar Posted April 13, 2022 Author Posted April 13, 2022 I think my text did not appear with the F -18 picture in AG attack mode. It shows the a/c at 1180 ft, 545 kts speed. My point is if you look at the vehicle spread, they look bunched up on the left 4-5 vehicles. So with the pipper pointed at them, I should get more hits in one salvo. At a sharp 30 deg dive from 3000 ft or so, they seem more spread out. The picture is from the Manual. Thanks.
