This is a summary of all suggested improvements for the Reverb G2 headset.

#1 Frankenmod - increase comfort and FOV
TEST VERDICT : fantastic ! +15% FOV with the v1. More comfortable face pad. May not apply to the reverb G2 v2

#2 Counterweights - increase balance and comfort

Adding between 200g to 400g of weights to the back of the headset will make it rest more easily on your face. I personally ordered wheel weights, as they self-glue and are easy to remove.
TEST VERDICT : good, headset sits more stable, less strap force required, more comfortable

#3 Hair nets

This is my own "invention". If you have hair, you may find it often gets entangled with the rubber cable or straps. Also there is a constant pull on your hair due to the strapping. A simple one-time use hair net ( $0.10 ) removes that problem entirely, and you can reuse them several times. Also: putting up and removing the headset is easier and more pleasant.

#4 zip ties

The original cable clip breaks or comes off easily. Use two or three small zip ties instead, to fix the cable properly.

#1 depends on your facial geometry and on if you use correcting lenses ...  which will ram the lenses into my eye socket

#2 no opinion

#3 err and the sweat that drips into your eyes, p.s. get a hair cut 😉

#4 i really wouldnt use thin zip ties on that cable, its heavy & it moves  and zip ties tend to have sharp edges....

#1 My face fits right into the stock G2 gasket so if I remove any distance from my eyes to the lenses then I can see the edges of the panels.

#2 I've not played with weights yet, I don't suffer any front heavy imbalance issues with the G2 but I do strap it up really tight (sometimes painfully so).  If I don't strap it up I find than when facing straight downwards (to look at the A10C HMCS panel for example) the headset pulls up off my face slightly on the strap elastic and it defocuses a little; downside it it removes all the circulation from my face and I have a white scuba mask imprint for about 5 minutes after taking it off 😄

#3 I lose a bit of hair to the straps sometimes, but I have plenty to lose and prefer to keep the airflow. I have a USB rechargable fan on a gorillapod type mount so I can direct air to my head/face when it get's warm; not a G2 specific mod though.

#4 Routing the cable under the left hand speaker mount massively alleviates flexing of the cable next to the plug when the strap is lifted up.  Zip ties would be ok but you're going to ideally want some substantial strain relief to stop it kinking/compressing.  I also have the USB extension cable for the leap motion spiralled around with the G2 cable, it makes it a rather stiff assembly but it's hung in a loop from the wall next to my seat so there's no strain on it.

edit: had a quick play with a counterweight, I clipped an 8m tape measure to the centre strap at the back just above the occipital frame and slackened off the side straps, it sat a bit more balanced on my head although obviously a good deal heavier.  It does however alleviate my issue of the headset defocussing when facing downwards, I think the weight falls forwards and twists the frame tight on the back of my head which stops the front pulling away from my eyes and disrupting the sweet spot.  I have quite a high occipital protruberance though so the frame sits high on the back of my skull rather than cradling lower down, undecided as to which is better.

#2 I also installed a counterweight on my HP.
This is for me a significant improvement in wearing comfort

The nets i use are very light weight meshes, i did not notice any disruption of air flow.
