Only getting promoted / new rank when crashing

So far, I have been promoted at least 10 times ( Colonel ). But most - if not all - of the promotions happened after I crashed in a mission.

This may be coincidence but maybe something is broken.

Promotion is based upon the total flight hours alone. It doesn't matter how the mission ended. The promotion is given if you reach the target hours after the mission ends.
