I had an SA-11 as a target, so I added a point with type "11" (without parenthesis), which shows up nicely on the map when allowed under "SHOW".

What I could not do was to add the SA-11 Point to the Route, nor to designate it as a Direct To Point.

Is the WAD, or is this a bug?

Someone will be able to correct me if I'm wrong about this (which I probably am!) but I thought you couldn't add TG points to a route. As for not being able to go DIR to it, did you try to select it with the cursor or by entering the IDENT for it (such as T01)? I don't think you can set TG points as DIR either, at least not right now. As a workaround you could create a WP point at the same position which would allow you to add it to your route and use it as a DIR point. You could also use a CM point such as ED (Air Defense Enemy), which shows on the TSD as control measure that you can DIR to and/or add to your RTE

EDIT: I really must try to get more sleep, as I keep saying the wrong things.

Thanks for replying.

I don't recall not being able to put Target Points into a Route, but I guess that might be the cause.

To make a Point a Direct To Point, you must first go the the Point page, by pressing B6 (POINT). When on the Point page, SA-11 cannot be selected using the pointer. You can go into coord and select is, but when your return to Point, it us unselected.

When on the Point page, you can also just press L4 (or 5?) DIR and then L1 (Point?), but when you enter the CM number (it was C55 in this case), upon pressing [ENTER] the KU display blinked, indicating an invalid entry.

Just looked in the sim. TXX points can be used for DIR. I tried with the cursor and also by entering the point ID. It doesn't seem possible to add TXX points to an RTE with any method that I tried. CXX points work for both DIR and RTE. I did what you did. RTE - DIR - POINT - Type C51 - ENTER. TSD updated with green DIR line.

I just tried it again too, but this time in SP. Txx cannot be added to Route, which is I guess WAD.

I also could set SA-11 as Direct To Point, both by entering it in the KU and by selecting it with the pointer, so I'll have to try it again in MP, but SP seems to be okay.

Question: what does "WAD" mean?

It is correct in that Targets/Threats cannot be added to a Route, but can be set as the Direct navigation point. This is correct behavior.

Cheers very much! Just came to the same conclusion after 15 minutes of testing.

As for "WAD" could it be "works as designed?" That's all I could come up with.

@Raptor9 Can I quickly ask, is there a way to select a DIR point from the COORD pages in the same way that you can use the ?00 to set your ACQ?

No, there isn't.  The COORD page is just for reviewing existing database entries and for setting database points as ACQ.

But there are multiple ways of selecting a DIR. After pressing DIR, you can cursor-select a point within the TSD footprint, you can enter it via the KU at L1 "POINT>", or if it is part of the currently selected route, press the bezel button R2-R5 that corresponds with that point.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Just wasn't sure if I was missing something. I was just thinking of scenarios where it might be outside of the TSD screen or you couldn't think what the ID was, but then that's what kneeeboards are for!

In SP, correct. I haven't confirmed MP yet.

I think ED would have to answer that.

The manual says on page 341:

Quote

Select a Point for Direct-To Navigation
To select a point for direct navigation, perform the following:
1. TSD fixed action button – Press.
2. RTE (B5) – Select.
3. DIR (L5) – Select.
4. POINT> (L1) – Select and enter point type and number (i.e., “W01”, “H09”, “C51”, etc.)
or
4. Cursor select – Select desired point on TSD (WPTHZ, CTRLM or TGT/THRT).

and

Quote

Add a Point to the Current Route
To insert a point into the current route, use the pan function as necessary and then perform the following:
1. TSD fixed action button – Press.
2. RTE (B5) – Select.
3. ADD (L2) – Select.
4. POINT> (L1) – Select and enter point type and number (i.e., “W01”, “H09”, “C51”, etc.)
or
4. Cursor select – Select desired point on TSD (WPTHZ or CTRLM).

Note, that for Direct-To Navigation, at '4. Cursor select' TGT/THRT (target/threat) is included, but for Current Route it is not, so that confirms, targets are not allowed in Routes.

I'm telling you from real-world experience it is correct behavior.

Okay. Are you a RW Apache pilot then?

Anyway, I tried it in MP and I could use a target point as the Direct-To point; in this case an SA-6. So, what ever issue I had previously were apparently user error 😒 *sigh*
