Zodiacc Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 Hi all, Altough ADF is pretty old navigation system, just out of curiosity I was fiddling around ADF navigation and I realize that I can tune VOR frequencies for ADF (which is weird and never seen before) on the other side I cant tune NDB stations for ADF (which is normally I should use).Is there anything wrong or missing ?
Tusky Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 (edited) The radio on the F-18 is VHF/UHF: - VORs are VHF (Very High Frequency - MHz) - NDBs are MF (Medium Frequency - kHz) Simply put, NDBs use a different frequency band. Use VORs and you will be fine... Edited April 7, 2022 by Xamik75
Divadov Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 When I put the frecuency of a VOR, I can hear in the radio the morse code, but if I change to other frecuency (airport) I continue to hear noise that I can't cut it. How can I close the noise without power off the fighter?
Dragon1-1 Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 It's worth noting that the F-18 doesn't have a "real" ADF, the way, say, a MiG-19 has one for navigation. Rather, this ADF is a function of the COMM radios, and is most likely to be used in order to locate a radio transmitting voice on a UHF/VHF frequency. For example, you're talking on the radio to an ejected pilot, and he's on the move, you can use ADF to keep track of where he is, for when the SAR arrives to pick him up. Or, some dumb terrorists are talking on civilian UHF handsets, while you use the ADF to zero in on their general location, find them with TGP, and serve them an LGB. It does work on civilian VOR beacons, too, and would work on any regular music-playing radios if they were present in DCS, but navigation isn't the primary use. 1
