Timster76 Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 First of all I must say that I really love this campaign. This is exactly what I like to do with the A-10, it comes with a high amount of realism. Unfortuneately the realism comes at a high price, difficulty. Although the difficulty certainly makes me a better (virtual) I tried this mission now for... I don't know many times. First Task I set up an IP waypoint and a TGT waypoint for the BRD an try to get that little bugger with an IR Maverick. But this really a pain in the <beep> because this damn Mav locks everything up, except for the BRD and because I'm not able to kill this bastard the attack window closes and people are going to die, which is not acceptable. Second/third Task The one case I made it to the second task I took out both T-72 with GBU-12. But got shot down by a ZSU-23 while helping my troops on the ground. On the next try I'm trying to take out the BRDM with a GBU-12, T-72s with IR MAVs and the ZSU-23 with the second GBU-12. Maybe I'm using the MK-82s for ground support. If anyone has more tipps I would really appreciate it. It starts getting frustrated...

First task (command APC) - use a GBU-12, as long as you're not too slow (if you are the APC starts running), it will stop eventually in a new location and there will still be time to kill it after that. Second task (2 T-72s in the city) - use Mavs or GBU-12, stay high - there is no need to go low and end up in AAA or MANPAD range. Third task - repeated gun runs on enemy troop positions. You mentioned the AAA problem, this shouldn't be a factor unless you're way out of position, the AAA is located at Jiroft airport, which is still in enemy hands. Don't fly west of the city and you'll stay out it's way. Any attacks in the city are best made north-south, coming off the target to the east Hope that helps!

But there was a ZSU where the the Humvees got into an ambush (got prove). Shouldn’t it to be so?

Shouldn’t it to be so? Ah yes you're right, I checked in the editor but missed that one! In that case advise keeping your altitude as high as you can and standoff with the gun as much as possible.
Timster76 Posted May 12, 2022 Author Posted May 12, 2022 Made it today! Even took out the ZU-23 with a MK-82

jmb759 Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Question regarding the gun runs on the enemy elements in the area. When I looked down, I saw lots of red dots all over the place. I hit them with my cannon until a ran out of ammo and then dropped a couple of 500 pounders on them. It was a great deal of fun. However, when the mission was over, I got dinged for hitting civilian property. How do I know when I've gone too far with my gun runs?

Just go to be careful about what you're hitting in the background, try and avoid the buildings/vehicles and hit just the troops. If troops are on buildings then they're fair game but surrounding buildings should be avoided.

IIRC, this was a Type 1, danger close, situation that called for the cannon. Too risky to drop 500 pounders. I had fun strafing the tree line multiple times here. Currently on mission 12 and still alive. Haven’t been shot down quite yet. I’m expecting it soon though Some tips: AAA isn’t too much of a problem if you snake your way in to the target. Stay high as long as possible before putting your nose on the target. Pump flares out every second or so when in danger areas. Flying low and in a straight line when running in is a death warrant each and every time. Once I dive in to the target, I start popping flares at a much higher rate. Always plan to turn away immediately after firing your weapons. I don’t overfly the targets, and I don’t focus on watching them blow up in the TGP, which is fun, but dangerous. Keep your eyes outside of the cockpit looking for threats. After you circle back around, you can do your BDA from somewhere safe. Also, after you find the target, set a mark point, then continue to scan the area for additional threats before running in, then you can return your TGP to the mark point and go for the kill. When running in, remember to snake left and right. Hold heading steady for just a second when you use the F10 menu to tell the forces you are running in. The mission trigger is looking for you to be running in on the correct heading, so make sure you get authorized to continue and then continue weaving left and right until ready to fire. This method has saved me many times. Having a blast with these missions so far. Really great campaign for sure.
