TechnoBill Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Hi all I have read the other threads on this issue but no help there. Same problem as others reporting. I have installed the downloadable version. If I try to run DSC Black Shark, it opens in a window for a few secs, plays a few notes of the opening music then windows comes up and says Launcher.EXE has stopped working and it closes. I cleared out the temp dir before running. There is nothing in there after the crash except for an empty missions folder. If I run the multiplayer version it loads up to the menu OK. I am running Vista 4 gig of ram. Nvidia 8800 GTX (latest driver from nvid site) I uninstalled xvid codec, played around with video resolutions, etc. I do not know what else to do. All other games I have run fine (farcy, warhead, flight sims, stalker, etc) Please help, I hate buying stuff that just does not work.
Coffin Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 reported the same problem, but running XP. DrWatson is a program that gives debug-information. Does Vista have that too ? If so, crash-information might be retrieved from there. I'm sure DCS needs information about the crash to be able to solve it.
ED Team Groove Posted December 22, 2008 ED Team Posted December 22, 2008 There should be an option to save the crash report. Maybe you could copy paste it and attach it in this thread. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
luminousplumz Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 try this , iits how i got it sorted http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=35495
Coffin Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 no crashlog created with XP... (see other posts) There is however a DrWatson report... anyone can read that ? (see post 4 in http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=35298 )
TechnoBill Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 Thanks Guys I will try to find more info when I get home tonight. I did try changing the resolution as specified in that other thread. It doesnt change anything, no new messages. It simply says "says Launcher.EXE has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution... nothing found and it closes. No option to view error reports etc. Having Said that I will go into control panel and look at the error log that Windows would have kept. When I get more time I will look through the windows system logs to see if there are any clues there. Its a bit frustrating. BillD
TechnoBill Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 OK The only extra info I have on the crash is whats logged on the windows log files and its not much This is the application log from windows. Launcher.exe_unknown 0.0.0.04933f34blua-gui5.dll0.0.0.04933f366c00000900002b58f1f6c01c964d090bf19a0 I have played with all the graphiics card settings to see if that help, changed resolution, fequencies. I have nothing else.
TechnoBill Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 Is there some sort of command line debug mode I ca set so the launcher indicates what step it is up to. If you look at the other threads where people have resolved this issue, it looks like there are many causes for this issue not just one. Some have resolved it by changing controllers, others with a DLL, change some with opengl, and yet again others by simply changing res. I have tried all of the above so far. There needs to be better debug in the launcher. Other than rebuilding the PC I have nothing else to try if there is no other suggestions. Rebuilding this PC is not gonna happen. This is the only thing that does not work. (Typically its the thing I want to work the most drool)
Acedy Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Right click on your Desktop icon, select properties and remove the "--console" parameter from the target field. When you start BS a console window appears in the background that logs certain actions of the GUI. Maybe it shows some helpful information. Guest Goofy68 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I have just installed Black Shark and had the problem where Launcher would crash. I uninstalled my videodrivers and downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia.com. After that the game works:-) Running WinXP32 SP2, 8800GT

TechnoBill Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 Flakey Launcher Hi again, Still not running on a machine that can run every other PC game. This launcher is very finikey and flakey me thinks. I know it runs on other pc's so it is something that is installed here that IT does not like, But there is nothing I can do from this end unless the software gives a clue as to what the problem is. Is there a debug version of the launcher or something that can be loaded that will actually post more detail to help them diagnose why it is falling over? It is poor design to have an app simply crash with no logs or anything to indicate why. I understand the complexity of the PC environment, I have been a professional software developer since the 80's. But this PC runs every other game I have fine and these are not mickey mouse games, spore, farcry, Stalker, flight sims, etc. Just give us a clue???
jdrichard Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I have exactly the same problem and the Company seems to simply ignor this. Really upset at this. I waited 3 years for this sim and am really pissed off. I may make a youtube video on this as I am not getting any support. They need to FIX the launcher program.

I have an nVidia 8800GT vid card that was bought last summer. I initially had the same launcher problem as everyone. An update to the latest Nvidia vid driver solved the problem.
