Leviathan667 Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Hi, Do you know what the following concepts entail for combat flight (see text in bold)? Quote Let’s talk about how you will get to that engagement. Think back to my F-14 Combat Intercepts lecture [I understand they are not accessible but some info can be gleaned from this post, right?]) and what we talked about in terms of radar modes and sanitizing your assigned search sector. It’s not as important with a known 2v2, but a good time to practice. Quote Pilots, we’re looking for a good formation during the intercept and at the merge. Keep a good offensive split so if a bandit sees one fighter he may not see the other. Thanks Wishlist: Tornado ADV/IDS, Blackburn Buccaneer, Super Mystère B2, Saab J 35 Draken,
Reflected Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 @Leviathan667 Sanitizing means when fighters fly in pairs, they agree beforehand about where to direct their radar scan in order to be more efficient. E.g. Lead scans 20k feet and above, wing scans 23k feet and below. Offensive split means 'Tac spread', so the fighters being 1 mile abeam instead of a close formation - for the very reasons that Bio mentions. Also, the wing has to concentrate less on maintaining the position, and more on the intercept itself. 1 Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
