arneh Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I was trying to remap some keys, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. So just as an example I tried to switch G and M (gear and master warning reset). I went into the controller menu, found the Gear level command, cleared it, then Add and M as command to use M for gear. Then did the opposite for Master caution push-light, cleared it first, then Add G as its command. I also saved a profile with it, though don't think that makes a difference... But when I try in-game G still commands the gear and M still the master caution. Going back into controller menu it's like I set it up with M for gear and G for master caution. But in game they're still doing their default actions. So what's the secret to making these reassignments have effect? I have already reassigned lots of joystick buttons and that works as expected, but reassigning keys doesn't. And it's not just gear and master caution which are special, none of the other keys I've tried to reassign have worked either in game.
Chillspider Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 wierd works fine for me i never saved it as profile i just hit ok and it works fine the only time i seen keys being lost is if you normaly play DCS regularly in vista then next run it as administrator and everything will be gone but then just dont launch in admin again and everything is back. Just something i noticed. Doubt that helped you but could help some people. Cowflab Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I pretty much cleared out all buttons, and mapped just what i need - it took a while but its worth it. I love the LShift+, Lalt+, LCtrl+ functions, huge space saver! Im using a Saitek gamepad and rather than having to build a profile for it-DCS sees it essentially is a my other keyboard, ive got nearly 50 or more commands (from weapons systems, views, startup, gear) all on a 20 button pad, its sweet! one thing ive noticed tho - i reinstalled the game recently and loaded my saved keymap profile, and only the keyboard map had saved, reguardless of which option i loaded the profile under (Keyboard, Throttle Stick, Joystick) so this time i saved a profile for each of my inputs, just incase! Acedy Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 @arneh: do you have the correct game mode selected in the top-left drop down menu on the controls tab? You can create different profiles for the game/arcade and realistic/simulation modes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *** SERVMAN SERVER MANAGEMENT MOD V2 FOR DCS:BS V1.0.1 *** *** VERSION FOR FC2 ***

You can create different profiles for the game/arcade and realistic/simulation modes. Good tip, I even suspected for a moment that I was running in easy mode... But no. To make sure I changed the keycommands for both configs (though there is no master caution reset in easy mode), and even tried easy mode to see if did change anything there. But no, nothing there either, G does gear lever no matter what I do.
Acedy Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Hm, weird... Maybe the files are write protected for some reason. Check these folders: \Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Config\Input\Aircrafts. Also if you run Vista and you installed BS into the default directory (Program Files), check if your account has full write permission for the Eagle Dynamics and all included directories. If it still doesn't work you can also try to manually edit the files in the above directory. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *** SERVMAN SERVER MANAGEMENT MOD V2 FOR DCS:BS V1.0.1 *** *** VERSION FOR FC2 ***
arneh Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 It's not write protected, and keyboard.lua does list the assignments as I've changed them. I'm also using XP, not Vista. There is however another file there, called default.lua, so I tried changing it. And lo and behold, that actually did change it ingame too! But I guess you're not supposed to change the default file, that's the safe backup in case I screw up? So is there somewhere I can tell DCS to use keyboard.lua, and not always default.lua?
