When running OpenXR is not an option…

Hi,

I’ve been reading about the great performance improvements using OpenXR instead of SteamVR. Unfortunately, not running SteamVR is not an option in my case. The reason is I have a motion sim and motion compensation only seems to work through SteamVR. 

I use Simracing Studio for the motion and motion compensation, which seems to require running SteamVR. 

I wish there was a way to bypass SteamVR and yet have motion compensation run. I would like to experience DCS through OpenXR. 

I have a reverb G2 and while it looks fantastic the performance is not good. 
Id love to hear if anyone else has run into the same problem or if there is a workaround.

not sure there are some command line options to reduces some of the impact of steam:

"D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -no-browser +open steam://open/minigameslist

will run steam without the browser

"D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\tools\tools.vrmanifest"

will just run steamVR and not steam.  

You can similarly run various steam games directly, without triggering steam, by going to the actual install directory and running the app.exe file, which should not trigger steam.

but i suspect that your motionsim , is utilising exports.lua or DCS BIOS to interrogate what's going on in the SIM, these are typically based on a polling frequency, the greater the frequency the higher the fidelity of the experience, but this causes a massive CPU impact...  which has a horrible impact on perf...

Thanks for your help. So I tried to put that into command (windows+R) and into command prompt but I wasn’t able to close Steam and yet run SteamVR. I must be doing something wrong. Specifically, I tried to run the VR manifest but my computer didn’t have an app to run it. Not sure what I’m doing wrong?

on another note, I think you are right about my CPU usage. Although I am over clocking a Ryzen 5800X, I might be CPU bound. What makes me think so is that no matter what I do with the graphics settings, I cannot get any higher FPS, even when I lower all the settings or even lower pixel density.

There is not so much to regret, even with my new 12600k I still have lower minimum fps with OpenXR than woth steamVR. When I maintain 60 fps with steamVR I have reprojection @30fps  with OpenXR...Last example is the training ASE mission with AH64.
