Ranchgrom Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Hi all, There seems to be a change in one of the updates. There used to be a very discernable increase in canopy wind rush sounds with airspeed at one point in the past. This is gone now. This gave audible feedback of increase and decrease in airspeed without having to read it off the HUD. Haven't flown fighters but have flown civilian jets for 30+ years and I could tell airspeed just from the wind noise. Also, there is much less audible engine sounds with various RPM's. From watching cockpit videos, the pilot can definitely hear increasing and decreasing engine whine with throttle. Is this something that could be looked at? Is there a way for me to open and modify these sound files? Thanks in advance!
ED Team btd Posted August 8, 2022 ED Team Posted August 8, 2022 Hi @Ranchgrom, are you sure you're not using any sound mods? F18 wind sounds have not changed over the year. If so, let's try to improve smth. Unzip Sounds.zip into your DCS folder: c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Saved Games\DCS\ and check the sounds in the sim again. I increased the cockpit wind sounds and reduced the vibration sound that can suppress the sound of the winds. does this solve the problem in your opinion? if you think there should be more/less wind sound at certain speeds, please describe in more detail. A track or video can help too. Thanks Best regards, Kanstantsin Kuzniatsou (btd) https://soundcloud.com/btd
AngelAtTheTomb Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Might also want to check in settings (I think Sound settings) and make sure "Hear like in helmet" isn't the culprit. That option makes a huge difference to the soundscape. 1
Ranchgrom Posted August 19, 2022 Author Posted August 19, 2022 BTD...brilliant mod on the engine sounds! Can actually hear the engines now during a carrier landing. Thank you much! Still very little difference with the windshield air rush...same at 150 knots or 700 knots. Anything we can do with this? Thanks again!!!

Thanks again!!! I recorded a video with the sound from 150 to 700 knots. There is a difference. Please check it: 150-700knots.mp4 Do you think it should be much more loud and noticeable? Can you share maybe some reference with it from youtube? Best regards, Kanstantsin Kuzniatsou (btd) https://soundcloud.com/btd
Ranchgrom Posted August 23, 2022 Author Posted August 23, 2022 Hi BTD! Here's a cockpit clip from a Viper at an airshow. I don't know how to edit video but check out 5:55 - 6:30. Goes from the top of a Split S at probably 150-200 into a high speed pass probably 600+ You can hear the wind on the windshield. I know it's a Viper but the Hornet should be very similar Cheers Mate!
ED Team btd Posted August 29, 2022 ED Team Posted August 29, 2022 Hi, @Ranchgrom Thanks for your reference. Please watch my short videos with the updated sound dynamics and wind sounds for the FA18 cockpit: Test FA18 Wind Takeoff.mp4 Test FA18 Wind.mp4 I hope you can see the speed at the bottom of the screen. How do you like it? Maybe smth to improve? It still only in my working DCS version. Thanks 1 Best regards, Kanstantsin Kuzniatsou (btd) https://soundcloud.com/btd
Ranchgrom Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 Fantastic!!!! Outstanding!!!! This adds so much realism and will add to the pilots situational awareness!!! I'm curious....do you work for Eagle Dynamics or are you just part of the community? Thanks again P.S. How can we obtain this mod? Will it remain after each update? 1 1

I hope it will get into one of them. And it will remain of course. 1 Best regards, Kanstantsin Kuzniatsou (btd) https://soundcloud.com/btd
