tuffysdad Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 My question relates to saving DCS HOTAS binding profiles on the Options/Controls page. There are two ways to save these profiles (.lua files): 1) you can use the pull-down menu from each USB controller recognized and go to the "save profile as" choice, or 2) you can use the "save profile as" button on the upper far right of the page. It is not clear to me how exactly to save binding settings? If I save to any one device with the pull-down option, then are all other device settings also saved or must I have separate .lua files for each device? And what about the button on the upper right -- is it a global save for all devices? Hoping someone knows the answer? Thanks.
Sacarino111 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Hi. I never used the upper right button, indeed I think I didn't even knew about it! I always save each controller's profile separatedly for each and every module (pull down menu), and then make a backup of the "savedGames/.../controls" file to a safe place, in case I have catastrophic failure. It is abit laboriouse but works fine. Saludos. Saca111

I just have a copy of my input folder on OneDrive. The actual profiles are saved to the game whenever you click "OK". 1
tuffysdad Posted August 12, 2022 Author Posted August 12, 2022 (edited) No, I've got that. I have haDd issues where I have to reload settings for a particular module from a saved settings file. What I am unclear about is whether the pull-down "save profile as" saves all device settings or just the settings in the device that is pulled-down. Also, whether the upper right button saves all settings? What I currently have is a saved setting file for each device and that may be unnecessary... Edited August 12, 2022 by tuffysdad more info 1

HI, It saves the settings for the selected device only. It is the way I do it, and it only cretes problems/doesn't work properly is when after an update the dev have chaned something in the inputs and then the old profile doesn't match, so no possibility to load it correctly. I save for each individual joy/device per module, and load de other way around: for each module, I load the previously saved saved profile for a specific device. Don't mix profiles wit different modules (except for some FC3 planes), as the description of buttons/functions are different, and thus it won't wotk. Saludos. Saca111
edmuss Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 I save a profile per module per device in addition to a UI layer and general (module non-specific for things like time acceleration & pause etc.) I have no idea if this is the intended methodolgy but it seems to work for me Ryzen7 7800X3D / RTX3080ti / 64GB DDR5 4800 / Varjo Aero / Leap Motion / Kinect Headtracking TM 28" Warthog Deltasim Hotas / DIY Pendular Rudders / DIY Cyclic Maglock Trimmer / DIY Abris / TM TX 599 evo wheel / TM T3PA pro / DIY 7+1+Sequential Shifter / DIY Handbrake / Cobra Clubman Seat Shoehorned into a 43" x 43" cupboard.
