Is the drag induced by wing drop tanks modelled? There doesn't seem to be any difference in IAS when flying with or without wing drop tanks.

This is not the case for both internal and external ordnance as there is a marked difference in IAS with and without ordnance loaded.

There was a difference in a random quick mission I've just tried. About 10 mph when testing the top speed on the deck with rads open. Haven't investigated further, and I don't know if it's a plausible figure, but still.

Results of testing (aircraft trimmed for level flight at about 400 feet MSL)

Aircraft loadout condition:   (1) 100 percent fuel         (2) 100 percent fuel + 2 X 500 lb ST bombs in the bomb bay   (3) 100 percent fuel + 2 X 100 gal drop tanks

Aircraft weight                       (1)  20302 lbs                  (2)   21242 lbs                                                                                (3)   21956 lbs

IAS at 2650 rpm Boost 8       (1)   233 kts                     (2)   228 kts                                                                                   (3)    220 kts

IAS after jettisoning               (1)  NA                              (2)   234 kts                                                                                   (3)   221 kts

bombs / drop tanks

What is interesting is that - in the case of the 2 X 500 lb bomb loadout the aircraft IAS increases once the bombs are jettisoned and the bomb bay doors closed and the aircraft returns to trimmed level flight. However, this is not the case when the external drop tanks are jettisoned as the aircraft IAS remains around 220 kts despite having lost the "external drag" of the two drop tanks and 1654 lbs in all up weight.

The above test was undertaken flying from Mount Pleasant airfield on the South Atlantic map. Wind was 0 kts. Time of day was 1100. Ambient temperature was 11 degrees C.

RL difference is 5-6 mph tested for small drop tanks.

20300 lb T/O

Maybe 1-2 kts difference but hard to tell.

Open rads caused a drop of 10 kts. to 275 kts. with tanks.
