Hello,

Newbie here so please be gentle. 🙂

I set TACAN for Kobuleti 67X , TCN is ON and Boxed on HSI but the distance from it shows way too far, I am very close to airport, see attached screenshots.

I started the flight as Instant Action, "Hornet Ready on the Ramp"

Please help me determine what I do wrong.

Thank you!

The weirdest part is that after I did second flight, it was showing right distance.

The only "proof" it happened are the screenshots above.

What could I possibly do wrong, it just bugs me. 🙂

My 1st thought would be to try turning the TCN OFF then back ON.  There is (was?) a bug that would occasionally show up where the TCN wouldn't show correct distance.  Usually turning it off and back on would reset it.

And from your 2nd post, it's likely that bug is the cause.  Interestingly I have found that while it is random, it seems to only randomly happen to show up at the same spot in some missions (i.e. it doesn't happen often, but usually when it happens its the same spot in the same mission -- but not even always there).  Likely a tough one to track down, and once you know enough to restart the TCN easy to work around.

Thank you very much. I guess I will just need to remember to turn it off and back on. 🙂 IF it happens again.

Once in a while I lose the tacan display in the hud. Usually if I turn it off and back on it will come back. I think I have also had an incorrect distance like the OP. Glad to know there is a 'sometimes' bug because I thought same as OP, what did I do wrong?

Also when you have TCN turned on for a long time it tends to show wrong direction and distance. You need to turne that off and on.

Ok so how often I need to turn it off and back on to have reliable reading and what is the error?

Just off and back on should solve it.  I haven't seen the on for a long time issue.  Usually it's pretty obvious that it's wrong when you look at it if you think to check.  Not sure ED ever tracked down the cause since it is generally an intermittent issue.
