When I try to start DCS open beta in VR, the game crashes before ever reaching the main menu. This was originally happening whether I was launching in 2D or VR. I looked around here for solutions and found a common recommendation is to rename the options.lua file in the config folder to force the game to create a new one on start up. That allowed me to launch in 2D, but the game will now crash if I try to launch in VR.  Any subsequent launches after that, even in 2D result in the same crash and I have to rename the options.lua file again.

I've tried running the updater and repair tool with no luck. The crash message and failure log has been uploaded for reference. Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm using the HP Reverb G2 and my system is all up to date.

Any help would be appreciated!

Any mods in place? Remove them and run a repair?

This happens right after the options.lua file is read, which means it happens while the game loads dx11backend.dll:

2022-09-01 21:21:24.135 INFO GRAPHICSVISTA (Main): renderer: 'dx11backend.dll'

Instead of this (👆), you get that:

The "KERNELBASE.dll" seems to indicate a problem inherent to Windows, not DCS.

Please open your Windows Event Viewer and look into the Apps log. You should find the crash. Copy-paste any useful information, please.

Thanks for the reply Flappie!  I am seeing application errors nullin the event viewer after trying to start DCS.  I updated to the most DCS open beta version this morning, and am having the same issue. I think your right, it may be an issue with Windows.  Screenshot for reference.

I wish the Event viewer was more expansive about this error.

Since I'm not a VR user, I can't help you much more at this point. Please create a support ticket: log in to the DCS website, click Support, then click Create a new ticket.
