AlpineGTA Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Coming from a Quest 2 link cable, I find the cable on the Reverb G2 horribly stiff and inflexible. If it's not catching on the back of my seat I can feel it constantly tugging on the back of my head. Not only does this concern me about the longevity of the cable but it also moves the headset around causing the loss of the sweet spot and making everything blurry. Even if I sit on a cushion and elevate my seating position so that my head is above the back rest it doesn't help much. I'm using an IKEA POANG chair for reference, which is pretty reclined compared to a typical office or gaming chair. Does anyone else experience a similar issue or come up with a good solution? (Hanging the cable from a hook in the ceiling is one idea but not really practical in the living room! i5-11600K CPU, 64GB DDR4 RAM, XFX Speedster MERC319 AMD Radeon 6900 XT, Oculus Quest 2, HP Reverb G2
edmuss Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 I use a cobra clubman seat which is also pretty reclined, the back is about 30° from vertical. I have the cable mostly coiled and hanging on the wall to the side of the chair, there is enough free cable to loop down into my lap, up over my right shoulder to the back of the headset. I don't have any issues with the cable snagging but when new they seem to have a slightly tacky feel to them. You can sheath the cable with something a bit more slippery, I use spiral wrap which acts as both a strain relief and it's more slippery. https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/cable-spiral-wrapping/8117673 Ryzen7 7800X3D / RTX3080ti / 64GB DDR5 4800 / Varjo Aero / Leap Motion / Kinect Headtracking TM 28" Warthog Deltasim Hotas / DIY Pendular Rudders / DIY Cyclic Maglock Trimmer / DIY Abris / TM TX 599 evo wheel / TM T3PA pro / DIY 7+1+Sequential Shifter / DIY Handbrake / Cobra Clubman Seat Shoehorned into a 43" x 43" cupboard.
AlpineGTA Posted September 12, 2022 Author Posted September 12, 2022 That's not a bad suggestion. My PC is in front of me, so I'm thinking, instead of having the cable draped over the back of the chair and because of the way it curves around the back strap from the clip, it'll be better having it somehow fed forwards and under my arm. i5-11600K CPU, 64GB DDR4 RAM, XFX Speedster MERC319 AMD Radeon 6900 XT, Oculus Quest 2, HP Reverb G2
edmuss Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Bring it over your shoulder and into your lap, that way the weight of the cable is supported by your legs and your head is free to rotate without snagging the cable. I'd tried routing over the back but like you say the drag and weight pulls it about. AlpineGTA Posted September 13, 2022 Author Posted September 13, 2022 Yep, velcroing it to the head strap round the back and side so that it comes round facing forwards on the right hand side did the trick. It's much more comfortable now and no snagging or tugging at the back. 1 i5-11600K CPU, 64GB DDR4 RAM, XFX Speedster MERC319 AMD Radeon 6900 XT, Oculus Quest 2, HP Reverb G2
Burt Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I hate how the G2 cable material can get alittle sticky at times so I put about 4ft of this stuff on my cable and I don’t feel the cable rubbing on my shoulder, works great. 1 ALIENWARE R11 - I9 10900KF @ 5.1 GHz - M.2 NVMe 2TB - RTX3090 - XFURY 64GB -3400 MHz RAM Monitor AW3420DW @ 120Hz - Virpil CM3 Throttle - TM TPR Rudder pedals - Virpil CM2 w/TM Hornet Stick Center - Monstertech Deck Mounts RealSimulator FSSB-R3 Lightning Base w/ F16SRGRH SideStick - VR user / Varjo Aero - Big Thx to mbucchia Start Date April 2020
edmuss Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 ^^^ This is the stuff I use but I've not bothered to fully wrap a length, just the shorter contact patches as needed. It's great for cable management (obviously) and we have miles of the stuff at work Note that my cable is actually close to double weight as well because I have a 3m USB extension lead twisted around the reverb cable to feed the leap motion. 1 Ryzen7 7800X3D / RTX3080ti / 64GB DDR5 4800 / Varjo Aero / Leap Motion / Kinect Headtracking TM 28" Warthog Deltasim Hotas / DIY Pendular Rudders / DIY Cyclic Maglock Trimmer / DIY Abris / TM TX 599 evo wheel / TM T3PA pro / DIY 7+1+Sequential Shifter / DIY Handbrake / Cobra Clubman Seat Shoehorned into a 43" x 43" cupboard.
