folks I'm really at a loss here.  I've only managed to get DCS to run right after a clean install. I adjust the graphics to medium in the settings and...well...thats about as far as I can get.  It restarts but then it hangs up on the splash screen.  I've tried lots of things after numerous googles:

  1. renaming/deleting the DCS folder in the Saved Games folder in users
  2. Unplugged my g29 steering wheel thinking maybe it was conflicting or something....nothing.
  3. checked the fullscreen setting in the options.lua file--it was already marked false, but switching it to true managed to get me to a black screen and then it crashes
  4. Ran the update and repair function via powershell in the bin folder.

Im running a ryzen 5 2400G 3.6 Ghz, 32 g of RAM, Radeon RX 480 8 g of VRAM.  Ive attached the log file...I have no idea what I'm looking at there but I imagine it might be able to help figure out where the snag is happening.  As I mentioned before, I can actually get it up and running only right after a clean install.  Ive started up the tutorial for the frogfoot but the graphics settings are set so low by default that I cant read anything in the cockpit.  So clearly, I go to change the graphics settings, assuming my machine can handle a small uptick in graphics.  DCS then restarts....but never gets past the splash screen after that.  I imagine the snag is something so ridiculously simple, which is why it is proving so difficult to diagnose.  Can someone please help me out here?

Hi,

I have a similar problem since the last 2 open beta patches: I called the full repair function & deleted the fxo and metashader directories. If I then call up DCS, I see the splash screen after a short time and then nothing happens for a long time (even after a good 5 minutes nothing happens.). It only continues after I have called up the task manager.I have to do this once, after that I no longer have this problem.

Users have reported lately that it uses a loooooong time to rebuild the the shaders, and it seems frozen. I use a live log viewer to monitor the DCS.log file, so I always see what's happening.

This will happen the first time after you have updated DCS or you have  changed graphic settings. Try to let it run for a couple of minutes (five minutes seems excessive though). Might just resolve itself.

you might have to unplug more than one usb device, leave the mouse, keyboard plugged in and run dcs. if al is well then plug back in joystick, and whatever else. A patch a while back game me issues and well.

ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind

G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD

EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer)

55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR

There it is.  It was nothing more than a lesson in patience for me. I just....let it go...and viola.  Its up.  AND, I was able to adjust the graphics and get it to start and run again.  Thank goodness.  And thank you for the help--sometimes I just need that simple little reassuring nudge in the right direction.  Now Im off to go find another problem to solve....

Problem solved everyone.  You just have to let it load.  It takes a while at first, but once everything is loaded in the right spots, it boots fast.

That's great! Patience IS a virtue!

I only noticed after last update or something because, like I wrote, I use this, and errors and warnings are easy to spot live. 😁
