Default774 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) Using the dcs weapon lua datamine for reference https://github.com/Quaggles/dcs-lua-datamine The SD-10s reflection(RCS) attribute as listed in the weapon lua is 0.045. Comparing this value to other air to air missiles it doesnt seem to make a lot of sense. The AIM-120, which is smaller than the SD-10, has a reflection value of 0.07. The AIM-7, which has a similar diameter but larger fins than the SD-10, has a reflection of 0.08. Furthermore, the SD-10s RCS doesnt even match up to the RCS of the LD-10. The LD-10 has a reflection value of 0.07 which seems more appropriate for a missile its size. Is this discrepancy in RCS intentional? Mike_Romeo Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) LD-10 RCS was nerfed to 0.7 so that SAM can intercept it what wasnt possible before. The SD-10 might be bigger in comparison to the other missiles but its overall much "cleaner" than them. You can see all the extra things sticking out of the boddies of the Aim-7 and Aim-120 increasing their RCS that the SD-10 doesnt have and the LD-10 shouldnt have as well. J20Stronk Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 I think this is an ED issue, since they're now responsible for weapon parameters. But yes, they (LD/SD-10) should both be ~0.075 RCS to account for the relative diameter and fin size between these missiles. 1

Sometimes they make suggestions, and they have an ambition to do all weapons, but All 3rd parties still control and make their own unique weapons Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com

Tiger-II Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) People need to remember that the base line for RCS in DCS is totally broken. It would require a total re-work from RADAR emission powers, frequencies, and pulse models, to calculating RCS for everything, accurately, to knowing the sensitivity of receivers used to see reflected emissions in order to detect things in the first place. RCS isn't "a value"; it is a whole bunch of factors that DCS simply does not consider. Let's say an F-15E can see an F-16 head-on, co-altitude, at 35 NM, well... it tells us nothing about how an SA-3 sees it from the ground.
