I really put this for all aircraft that fight A-A against planes with Jammer such as SU-33. When I Lock them, I get Jammed and lose the lock. I fight to get the lock back. I did a search in these forums and online, and did not get back any results that helped me. There maybe some videos on Youtube, but thought i would just come out and ask. What am I doing wrong, or how to aquire and keep the lock no matter what. Probably change from radar to IR? But then I lose the longer distance I am trying to use.

TWS defeats lock breaking, but can't get around barrage jamming. AWACS will burn through barrage much further than your own radar, so you can try to estimate range using datalink.

If you're using STT then lock breaking will keep happening until you reach burn through range and there is nothing you can do about it besides switching to TWS, although I think the AI might be bugged right now and will still lock break even with TWS active.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

Burn through range is - or at least was - around 22 nm.

For everything beyond this you could use a Aim-7MH and launch it in HOJ (Home on Jam).

But launching an Sparrow further than 22nm doesn't sounds fun IMO. 😅

Since AIM-120 B the Amrams have a HOJ mode but iirc it automatically switches to it when launched and jamming is detected. Also there is no way to select it manually.

As quoted above the AWACS can burn through further and with the track file you should be able to get a missile on him.

Use a controller (human preferably, or just spam "bogey dope" calls to the AI) to get range, shoot on timeline, continue normally.

"Darkstar, Colt 11, strobes 360."

"Colt 11, strobe range 35, 35 thousand, hostile."

"Colt 11, fox 3."

You ask how you can acquire and maintain lock no matter what even on enemy using jammer. You can't, this is the whole point of jamming. If there was anything you could do about it, the jamming would become pointless.

To be honest, jamming in DCS is probably not a simulation, it's just modeled 'somehow'. I'm pretty sure this can't be simulated because documentation about jammers is probably classified. This why it seems like jammers in DCS make it impossible to maintain lock until certain distance and 'simulates' what would jammer do, if used properly. So no, you can't maintain the lock, just try to maintain your SA.

Ok. This is going to be a wild answer, but around the 20 miles range, maybe a little higher, you can use the ATFLIR in A2A mode and track the target. I have found myself using the pod more frequently just to see the targets, and it can actually be helpful to see if that enemy head on has launched a missile.

As others have said, if a target is jamming from distance, there's nothing to be done except trying to loft some shots or close the distance.
