So super looking forward to the campaign but I must ask if the documentary is mandatory to watch before hand? Don't have alot of time on my hands now adays and was wondering if I could hop right in

Of course you can hop right in, it's gonna put you through the F-14 RAG and then your first deployment.

 

BUT: the documentary is amazing, well worth watching, and some characters - and their voices - will pop up in the campaign too.

I can't wait to go through that, and then Zone 5 again, with the new dogfighting AI.  That should be great.

And after you've watched "Speed and Angels", it wouldn't hurt to also read "Lions of the Sky", by Paco Chierici.  

Both are probably not mandatory to enjoy the campaign, but I suppose you'd feel more "at home" initially. Both film and book are also good entertainment, so certainly not a waste of time if you're interested in the topic matter, at all.

And, if you're short on time, there's another option for Speed & Angels. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but if you're super crunched on time, you can skip a good chunk of the documentary where they're talking about the main subjects' families and their relationships with their hometowns. Again, wouldn't necessarily recommend it, because it helps you to get to know them a lot better and they're cool people, but if you just want to watch the flying/flying-related sections it is *an* option.

...and then watch this.  It was difficult not the reach into the screen and throttle the host near the beginning, but it got a lot better.  I'd love to see campaigns like Zone 5 and S&A for the bug, but they give me incentive to get better at real airplanes and be a cowboy.

Will there be a list of reference characters somewhere once it releases? Sometimes I'm bad at recognizing names when I hear them.

Beyond excited for this campaign to be available. I keep checking every few hours
