Cathnan Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 As we all know the replay tracks are inaccurate over longer periods of time. It is widely requested that a reliabe replay system is implemented. TacView - if installed - provides accurate recordings of every mission, and at a reasonable filesize. So I think it would be nice if TacView files could be loaded and replayed in DCS. The engine would only have to faithfully overlay the recorded paths with the units and projectiles. Certainly seems more easily done than it actually is, but I think that way the wheel wouldn't have to be reinvented from scratch, since at least the recording part is already done. All that's left is teaching DCS to provide the graphics to it. Would be amazing to not only have TacView recordings of epic dogfights and CAS missions, but being able to rewatch them in all their glory. 1
Dangerzone Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Honestly - while I get the idea behind this, and think it would be great to implement - as a developer myself, I can't help but think it would be more work for ED to implement this feature rather than to fix (and enhance) their own internal track replay. Having control over all the information (internally) vs trying to bridge information externally is a huge contrast (and I suspect TacView probably records time and position, and little else such as system states, various inputs, etc) would make this almost impossible for ED to implement native tacview replay reliably. Of course, I haven't looked at the Tacview files, so IDK how much info they really record and how it could potentially be used, so I very much could be wrong. 1
draconus Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 (edited) Tacview records DCS flight data into its own format. Then you'd need to make DCS read the file back to its own format. But there already is server type of recording in DCS which works similar to Tacview in MP - why not have the option to use this one instead for SP? Add some playback controls and we're done, no need for license and 3rd party support. (I'm guessing this is different to track files which we already have available in SP)?

It has its downsides though - no cockpit view and probably less smooth. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Dangerzone Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I see. So it's not recording all inputs for all users. OK - that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
