2.8 patch - do LS-6/GB-6 still get shot down by SAMs?

  • Updated: move LS-6/GB-6 loadout selection from missile menu to bomb menu

Does this change mean that the glide munitions will no longer be shot down by SAMs? Or at least as easily. Would be a welcome change if so.

I tested using NASAMS interception. All GB-6 and LS-6 bombs can be intercepted by NASAMS.However, the whole JDAM series cannot be intercepted by NASAMS.All JSOW series can be intercepted by NASAMS.Forget about politics. They are GPS guided bombs. If the whole JDAM series cannot be shot down, so should the LS-6 series.

All glidebombs can be targeted as they are considered "missiles", whether it's the LS-6, GB-6, or AGM-154.

All freefall bombs; dumb or guided, are invisible to SAMs.

It's just the way DCS divides the types of weapons. It's not a bug.

it seems like the 2.8 update moved all glidebombs of the jeff to the Bomb category, meaning they are invisibe for SAM sites now

im not sure if i like the change or not , on one hand, it makes them realy usefull on servers like DDCS on the other hand maybe its a bit too powerfull now ?

i only tested a LS6-500 vs a TOR, it didnt seem to shoot it.

Your info contradicts Arisugary and AKey45 above. Who is right, and who is wrong? 🤔

My opinion is: the RCS of these bombs would be very small, and the GB-6 looks like it was designed with stealth in mind. So I doubt they would be shot at by SAMs, or if so, only at very close ranges - only an actively scanning radar with missile trucks already weapons hot would even have a chance to hit one.

They are only moved in the menu, not in how DCS world sees them. TOR can 100% target the LS series of glide bombs and shoot them down. Are you certain you set up the TOR site correctly? I tested this when 2.8 was released and it engaged my GB6's at about 2nm, LS-6-500 at about 3.5nm and LS-6-250 at less than 2nm (although this was too close for TOR to intercept them)
