Dangerzone Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Hi ED, Just wondering if it might be possible to tweak the forum so when users go to copy text - unless a specific/different background color has been specifically applied - it only copies the text and not the underlying color of the screen. It seems at present - whenever a user selects a bunch of text (that is not formatted) in normal mode, and pastes it back in to the forum again - it copies the background color along with it (white), and ends up looking like this in dark mode: There's really no need for the background color to be copied if it's the default background color, as it seems to screw around with users on a different view mode, and it makes it hard to read if you're not using the same view mode as the original poster. Not a big issue, but it's existed ever since the forum was upgraded, and I thought it might be WIP but given the time, it may not be something you're aware of? If it's a simple fix - can we get this fixed please? Cheers DZ. 1
MAXsenna Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Doesn't "right click" and paste as plain text work? Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk

Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk The problem isn't with reading- it's the countless posts that I come across when in dark mode. It's the people pasting in 'normal' view that have no idea that white highlighting is being applied when they do. (I'm betting most people don't even know this is happening). I wonder if it happens in reverse? Apparently so. So - for those running normal mode- this is in effect what we see whenever you copy and then paste your text back in again (or someone else's) - if someone else is viewing in a different 'mode' to you. It gets quite messy as you can see. Broken up - looks awful. It's even worse if someone adds some formatting to it like color. I'm not sure if it's intentional like that, or if the background color shouldn't be copied when highlighting text from another post? Edited November 15, 2022 by Dangerzone
MAXsenna Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 @Dangerzone You're right, I forgot that I don't see it if I do that myself. I actually only saw it when I copied some text from YT, which I run in dark mode, which I do not on this forum. Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk 1
SkateZilla Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 LEFT CTRL + LEFT SHIFT + V There is a background color specified, so it's copying as it should. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Dragon1-1 Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Except the user didn't specify background color, so it should be the default, whatever this is. Right now it needlessly breaks things for those using the opposite mode. I use dark mode and I often see text with wrong color palette. 3

Hi Skatezilla, Left CTRL+Left Shift+V requires the poster to be aware of what is going on. 9/10 people on the forum wouldn't have a clue this is even occurring. The poster has not specified a background color. They've simply copied text from another post that does not contain any background color formatting and it's adding the new posters settings within the copied text - settings that were not there in the original post. To explain: If you and I copy the exact same text from someone else's post, and post it in here - yours will go through as black on white, and mine will be white on black because of our different settings - even though the original poster didn't specify any format in their posting. Without knowing the code behind the forum, it may be able to be fixed simply by parsing the post and stripping any background color references where the background color is the same as the default background color of the person posting the post. (There's no need for it to copy the background color in this instance - they can't see that it's there, and it affects others negatively that aren't using the same view mode). Again - if it's too much of a big deal, so be it - but it's been annoying me for quite a while now, so I thought I'd just raise it to see if it's possible to address. Cheers DZ 2

True, but the problem for some of us that don't use dark mode, is that this is what we see when, let's say, someone post text from YouTube with dark mode on. Just used your post as an example @Hoirtel Cheers! 1
