A well known problem with the missile IRL. Absolute temperature is one thing, contrast is another. Early TV Mavs often went for bushes and the like, and even modern IR ones can be finicky in a complex environment.

I don't think so. Terrain units(poles etc) should be revised. Maverick seeker ignoring the obvious heat source(i know there isn a real heat source its only algorithm)  and locking to these terrain units. e.g in this video, its tracking heat source. and you can't see any tree  etc because in dcs our seeker has very good resolution. about this problem, there are too old topics in forum also. I dont believe it will be fixed

Issue is that they also lock onto lampposts and objects that it can't see. You can easily replicate this in a night mission like the Stop Rockets Rolling IA for the F-16. I'll see if I can attach a track for this tonight, but it's been reported in this other thread before and is a known issue

DCS is a sim, mavericks just lock onto game object, not on true contrast. You can clearly showcase this due to the fact that it can't lock onto most world statics like ships on the PG map, even if they show as a bright blob of light on the feed. The easy solution would just be to ignore lampposts as lockable targets, but it's quite likely this would affect the entire category of statics like powerlines, meaning it might become a real a pain to find objects to boresight on.

I feel that the problem has become worse since some weeks. If you have several main battle tanks standing on a street, then you can be pretty sure that the Mav ignores all the tanks and locks on the streetlamp. No problem, if a Mav sometimes accidentally locks on a streetlamp, but actually it seems to prefer streetlamps to vehicles.

Yup I agree, I stopped even trying to hit a moving tank that is on a road with street lights. I will wait until they move off the road. If they stay in a town it's very hard to get a mav to hit them if there is any light poles around the target.

It's not just the light source directly but the lit up area completely jams the IR.

Recorded in VR so occasionally my head shakes when I'm cussing :bounce:

Most ridiculous thing is, that all DCS street lights are HOT even during day.
IR target acquisition and tracking is about size and contrast.IF Big triple od double light  (not the pole) overlay the moving target, than the seeker may be stay locked on lamp, but the seeker definitely shouldn’t jump on lights when nearby.
Single light street pole is not big and hot enough when compared with moving vehicle heated surfaces.

This is still a very real issue. A convoy on a road with light posts in the wide open are almost impossible to kill with Mavericks. It will track a target and at the last second steer toward a light post.

Trying to use a maverick in an area that isn't completely empty? Waste of time.
