Im a fan of single GPU solutions, so it might be a 280 for me, soon.

Dont leave it too long Groove thay have dropped in price going for around £233.......they'll be sold out at this rate.

Hey, just a thought here...

Now that dual GPU cards are starting to be made, do you think single GPU cards are basically end of life cycle products now? Will they continue to be made?

Would a dual GPU single card still have the quirks (like not working with BS and LOMAC) you find in SLI, or does having one card help?

I was never a fan of SLI simply because it was impractical. I ultimately saw that eventually we'd have multiple GPUs on one card (worked for CPUs, right?). Now that they're starting to be made, I can't help but wonder if they'll be any improvement over SLI besides cost and less space taken up.

I was seriously considering replacing my 8800's but with Windows7 and DirectX 11 on the horizon I think I will hold off a while more. From what little I've seen this game appears to get a bigger boost from CPU upgrades.

Maybe one day dual GPU cards will sort out their performance issues, but currently neither Nvidia nor ATi seem inclined to do so. But look for Lucid's Hydra to, perhaps, drive them to give a better effort. Latest speculation is that Intel and Lucid will team up, and maybe Intel's next version of it's X58 mobo, the Smackover, will have the Hydra chip. As you know, Hydra will allow two GPUs to scale to nearly 100%, something neither major card maker can claim. Lot's of info about it on the web now.

Dual GPUs are like running SLi or Crossfire, imo. Just more of the same technology, but only on the same pcb. Like I said, maybe one day the big guns will sort out their rech issues if they can make a buck at it.

Flyby out

For now, dual GPU products will only remain in the high end segment. They are starting to slowly crawl into the mainstream segment however with the introduction of the HD4850X2 at a respectible price.

We won't be seeing dual GPU's become the standard for at least 5 years IMO. There is still too many issues when running on dual GPU's it just doesn't make sense to let them completely take over.

If you're thinking that dual GPU's are like dual CPU's where the transition went straightforward because it offered better performance increases, its a completely different story ;)

It was more actually a more simplistic assumption on my part only looking at the pratical value of having 2 GPU cards. It is expensive, requires a mobo capable of supporting it, a PSU capable of supporting it and SPACE.

Video cards are now officially of "ludicrous" size. They're larger than a VHS tape and they also weigh a ton. I have an 8800GTS and I thought THAT was large. Putting two 280/290s in a case would be like throwing in 2 size 12 (thats size 12 USA FYI ;) ) shoes.

Really?!

So which one provides more FPS in BS? Nike or Adidas?!

;)
