Mission 8 wingman not joining

Flew mission 8 and nothing happened the whole mission. Just before landing the wingman contacted me to 'get started'.

Now i wonder what should trigger him to join in the beginning and not when im almost out of fuel and about to get a beer on base.

Do i NEED to pass waypoint 1 to trigger him? Rapcon sends me on course of 085 just after take-off so i passed waypoint 1 and went straight to waypoint 2 after handoff. Or do i need to get close to the wingman to let him join? Tia.

Most mission you will need to hit the zone around waypoint 1 to get started.  Once handed off by departure at 25 (I think) miles you'll get a message saying go to waypoint 1.  Once you arrive there you and the wingman or flight lead will the communicate and things will get moving.  Don't skip WP1 as it will break most missions.

OK thanks. Isnt it a bit unhandy to first fly 25 miles (?) to satisfy RAPCON and then move back to WYPT 1 on own discretion🤨

It puts you in position to enter the 'Gold Corridor' for your entry into Syria.

This would be quite realistic actually. Departure doesn’t really care what your flight plan is, they have established departures and arrivals to help with deconfliction. And you’re under departures control until you leave their airspace or they hand you off.
