Noticed after re-arming the 30mm cannon is not reloaded. Looking into the control settings and found you can assign a key or joy button to re-load it. Pushed it while on I was on the ground before, during, and after re-arming. No re-loading.

There is a slider that will go down as you expend your ammo. In re-arm screen, you need to manually move the slider to desired value.

The re load button is a Soviet thing. Soviet guns often have pyrotechnic charges to clear gun jams or just load the gun. You have 3 of these to load the MiG-21/JF-17 gun and to clear jams. You have the same thing in MiG-15/19.

Since the gun can’t jam in DCS Mi-24P, and it doesn’t need the pyrotechnic charge to load, it has no function other then to make a “CLANK” sound

Yes, I do hope they someday at jams for the GUV pods... that'd be pretty neat.

Do you know common conditions for jamming? Material from the 80s make it sound like when Yak B overheats the symptom is round cook off, using the rest of the rounds onboard uncontrollably.

Unfortunately, I don't have the best sources of information.

Just the '400 rounds' every 15-20 minutes to prevent heating leading to primer/cartridge explosion... which makes one wonder why the GUV carries 750 rounds? Especially given the limited endurance of a fully loaded Mi-24.

It seems to have also been vulnerable to dirt and jams. The ammunition links apparently also broke sometimes (at least in the turreted installation - the feed path might've been gentler in the gunpod?).

Still - it sounds like it was quite effective when it worked.

Anyway: Turntables, Afghanistan. MI-24 (topwar.ru)

I'd personally be quite happy with either stoppages or a simple overheating mechanic... both would put interesting limits on the use of these pods.
