Hi.
I am a beginner in DCS and only want to use it with helicopter (UH-1H).

I have 4 monitors, 1 Above 3 another below. The left below monitor is my main monitor.
I want to use DCS only on my below middle monitor but I can't find any setting for it and DCS always runs on the left monitor.
In forums and youtube, they say I need to change my Windows display settings.

How can I use the middle monitor for DCS without changing my Windows display settings?
The second question is, how can I fly helicopter in any airport in free flight, without combat and mission?
Thank you if anyone can help me with that.

You need to make use of DCS's custom monitor facility .. it currently has no pre-made config that fits your need:

So, you need to create your own custom config. I'm attaching two pdf guides, study them and then try to create a config for two monitors, where the main DCS viewport is positioned starting on your second monitor, the first one would show a black image when running DCS. Can't be more specific since I don't have a monitor setup like yours.

Use the Mission Editor, select a Map, place a Helo group over the airbase you want, set it to "Player" control and then save & run the mission.

Once you feel comfortable with the Editor, learn to change items like mission time of day, weather, helicopter livery, so you can customize your mission more.

Hello.

1.
Indeed there is a DCS preference as for the 1st monitor.
Can you write/upload:

  • all of your monitors resolutions
  • the order of the connections (a screenshot of windows monitors display with all monitors + numbers)
  • a drawing of your monitors placement.

2.
If you can't create one, i can send you a mission just with HUEY.
Are you gonna use others (multicrew) or you will fly solo ?

Thank you.

Hi. Thank you for your nice reply. I'm a pilot, but I'm not that good with computer configuration settings, and I'm afraid of changing it, breaking something. That's why I send you my display setup photos maybe you can help me easier 🙂

Hello again. (Thank you for your kind words🙂)

Please confirm, just to make sure that:

  • You want DCS in monitor number 2,
  • All of your monitors are 1920 x 1080 resolution,
  • Which preset are you using ? (name of: MENU -> OPTIONS -> SYSTEM-> Monitors* field)
  • Do you have "Full Screen View" enable or disable ?

I will send you the mission today sometime.

Thank you.

EDIT: As promissed, here is the mission.
Rotary-1 is the solo and i've added Rotary-2 for multi-crew.
PS: I can't test it as i am away from my gear, but as i remember
the FOV settings for HUEY are non real. Something like 100 or 120.
For KA-50 and AH-64D i am using 73.

- High

Thanks for your help.

Hello again.

Thank you my friend, from the time that you find it usefull i am glad too.
What you are looking for, can be done. But, as i am away from my gear now,
i can't test and guarantee that my script will be a ready-2-work for you.
Give me some time to setup and send you script & instructions and i will
be with you in this step-by-step. Once you are not comfortable with the
programming part, i am glad to instruct you: even through discord video
stream, if you like. I will come back once i will have a basic script for you.
Till then, fly the mission and enjoy.

Thank you.
PS: I am chopper too.

EDIT:

Before you do anything read to understand the steps:

  1. Close DCS.
  2. Open a window of your DCS directory pointing at: "C:\ DCS World Openbeta \ Config \ MonitorSetup"
  3. Copy/Paste the file "ADHS_2nd_Monitor.lua" in there.
  4. Run DCS. Go to OPTIONS/SYSTEM.
  5. From "Monitors*" field, choose "ADHS_2nd_Monitor".
  6. Un-tick the "Full Screen *".
  7. Press OK.
  8. DCS will restart.

Once load again, DCS should appear in your 2nd monitor.
If doesn't work, you can just switch back to 1 Screen preset.
Let me know if worked or not.

Merry Christmas!
I did exactly what you wrote, but unfortunately I had only the black screen on my monitor number 1.

I think I have to live with it, and my neck will shift a bit if I don't find a solution 🙂

I've faced another problem these days that can't be solved and I wrote about it today in the forum that if it's no trouble for you and has an easy solution, I'm asking for your help.

My DCS: UH-1H Huey Cockpit is in Russian and I can't find an option in setting and „special“ that I do it in English. Only "Default" is in custom settings and no other language.

I don't want to bother you, and if the answer is easy, I beg your answer.

Best Regards.

Hello, Merry Christmas and Happy new Year, in advance.

  •     What is your current selection in: WINDOWS \ DISPLAY \ SETTINGS \ Multiple Displays \ field ?

Seems that you are not using the required windows monitors condition that DCS needs, so to work with.
In the worst, you may need to "live with it"🙂 by redirecting to "Monitor 2" before you run DCS and after
quit DCS, switch it back. If you can please upload a screenshot (PrtScr) of your DCS \ SYSTEM settings.

  • My DCS: UH-1H Huey Cockpit is in Russian --> DCS \ OPTIONS \ GAMEPLAY \ Avionics Language ---> English.

Thank you.

PS: Line 6: You don't bother me, glad to help a fellow choopie. 🙂 All good.
