Moving Around in the Aircraft

The game says that F2 is supposed to bring up an external view, but when I push F2, I get a slidebar on the upper left side of the screen that goes down and F3 goes up that adjusts the volume.  F5 turns the sound off.  On a side note, I can't reach the canopy switch and really can't move around the cockpit like I'm accustomed to in my X-Plane 11 game.  I'm working on hooking up the Hornet to the Catapult and I need the external view to help me determine when I'm lined up to be hooked up to it.  I've learned how to spread the wings and that's where I stand right now.

Are you playing DCS with your laptop? In this case you may need to use the Fn key. You can also enter the BIOS interface to change the function of the Fn key.

Thanks.  I tried using the fn button with F2 and that works.  I'm able to get the external view.  The other issue is not being able to reach the canopy switch.  I'll try it with the fn button and see if I can reach it.

I'm guessing you can't see the canopy switch due to limited viewing angles. The new DCS version has changed the parallel movement control method of the camera. I don’t know what keys are used to control it now. You may search in the key table.

But personally, my suggestion is to forget about that switch and just use LCtrl+C to close it.

I'm trying to align the plane to connect the launch bar from the external views but don't know which key gets you back in the cock pit to do it. Jim

Check the function of F1 to F12 in the key map.

Now you just need to press F1 (Fn+F1 for you) to return FPS view

FYI, most laptops will allow you to change how the Fn key works. It seems like your laptop is defaulted to Fn key always on with Function buttons, which I find extremely annoying.

How you change settings varies from laptop to laptop, so if you want to fix the Fn behavior so you don't have to press it do an internet search for how to switch Fn key functionality with your laptop.

 

As for quieting the engines, there is an option called something like "sound as if wearing helmet" this will make most ambient noise a lot quieter.
