Frederf Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 It doesn't make any sense why I can repeat a mission 100 times and the rapidly gaining rank and medals while as far as the campaign is concerned any mission that is not a success "didn't really happen" and you refly it like it was the first time. Is this a bug? Any mission that you fail, explode, die, etc and you have to try again should not add to my rank.

That's not true, actually. Look at the Campaign Status before you start it next time. It shows your mission success rate, kills, etc for every mission you've ever played and replayed, not just the ones you move on from. If you look in players.lua, every mission attempt is catalogued. So, rank is based upon flight hours/kills and you climb the ladder by how much youre playing the game, not how far you've progressed in the campaign.
lucasdigital Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Having the option of making your pilot invulnerable is a very useful feature, given how often mine gets killed. I do wonder what criteria is used for the awarding of medals. Repeating the 'Dawn' campaign mission earned some shiny medals because I was taking out about 20 ground units every time I tried the mission... -- L u c a s d i g i t a l Mark Lucas http://www.lucas-digital.com

therion_prime Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I got the rank "Captain" at exactly 30 flight hours after a free flight mission without any kills. My DCS movies:
GGTharos Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 No, it is not. If anything, I would say the ability to refly the mission is a bug. Do not re-fly missions. Even if you fail them :) It doesn't make any sense why I can repeat a mission 100 times and the rapidly gaining rank and medals while as far as the campaign is concerned any mission that is not a success "didn't really happen" and you refly it like it was the first time. arneh Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 If anything, I would say the ability to refly the mission is a bug. Do not re-fly missions. Even if you fail them :) I wish. I want to go on to the next mission, but at least in the deployment campaign I'm doing now it only gives me the same mission to fly until it's successful. Wish I could just go on to the next mission whether I failed, succeeded or even died... As it is now I get to succeed missions not because I become a better pilot, but because I learn exactly where all the threats are and can take them out immediately.
GGTharos Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 That's strange, it should be moving you from one phase to the other ... can you point out the particular mission? arneh Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 That's strange, it should be moving you from one phase to the other ... can you point out the particular mission? All the ones I've failed. "On the other side" I did three times in a row, the one after that (name of some town I can't remember now) also three times in a row, and the next one after that where you have a 50 minute flight to get to the action (that one I actually finished on first attempt, but then I when I started the next mission I realized when I entered the cockpit that I had forgotten to check all the pages of the briefing so I exited to read the briefing again. But then it gave me the previous mission with the 50 minute flight, which I then failed and now have to do a third time. Argggh!).
Chibawang Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I am currently in a viscious campaign circle where it keeps giving me the exact same missions over and over again. I've been reflying all the missions until successful, as I thought that was how it was meant to be played. And now it just keeps giving me the same five missions repeatedly. I've played ATO A.03.3 countless times. I'm about to just start playing the missions one by one I suppose...
Feuerfalke Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I ranked up for flight-tests in the quick-mission. :D I would welcome a more difficult way to rank up, but I'd like it in combination with additional scores given for accomplishing missions or script-goals. ;) MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD

It should not be possible to be grand master admiral on mission 2 of a campaign if I played and failed mission 1 10,000 times.
