Remove "dirt" from front windscreen.

Very hard to see trough the windscreen in front of the hud, hard enough to spot targets on the ground or in the air and this makes it almost impossible. You don't have any benefits flying this jet so please remove this "dirt" so we have a few more % to survive.

  • 9 months later...

This is very important to me... even more than the fix for the wings ripping off.
Enigma's server just reimplemented IC, so no more clean canopies.

My first mission after the update, I get into a dogfight with a Mirage. I was very offensive, following him through a dive to the right... until the sun was behind ME... and half of the canopy become completely opaque! It was worse than my car's windshield, and that's not good!

Anyway, I was completely blinded, lost sight of him, and couldn't find him again once I turned enough for the glare to disappear. All I could do was go into a dive at full speed to run away... until I ate a missile after he eventually caught up to me.

It is a sad thing. The new patch helped spotting visibility, but indirectly led to worse visibility for F-5 pilots... at least on the Cold War server.

Afair this opaque canopy is a bug only when shadows are set to flat [edit: or off]

New spotting is pretty crappy in VR.

I wasn’t using clean canopy in the F-5 so I have been dealing with the horrible canopy issues.

Just one of the many F-5 issues unlikely to ever get addressed.

Why? My opinion is that DCS is a single player experience. As such, its all about creating an atmosphere that SP users find appealing, like they are the star in their own cinematic production. So we get silly effects only a camera would see like the canopy going opaque when backlit.

Things that really matter in MP are not an issue in SP. Wings cracking off isn’t an issue fighting AI. The fights aren’t remotely similar to PvP.

Losing sight because the canopy goes opaque is a “feature” when you are the hero in your own movie. Not so much in a multiplayer environment where the bandit is able to think and be unpredictable.

Don’t hold your breath.

Unfortunately, whatever happened also happens when most shadows are turned off.
The only shadows I have on are Secondary Shadows. I even have the Lens Effects turned off to avoid normal sun glare.

EDIT: The same thing happened to me on my second mission. Again, turning with a Mirage in a dive to the right. Blinded me again, though I was able to pick up visual again after the glare ended. Still quite discouraging... especially for the second or so before I saw him again.

I might remember it wrong, maybe it was working only with shadows on. Can't test atm.

So I just did a test to recreate the instance, and yes, it must be a bug that takes place only when "Shadows" are set to "Off" or "Flat Only"

It's really odd because it appears the canopy is completely on the opposite side of the plane from the sun.

Here's an image as an example and a track file if anyone wants to experience it...
