This mission is kicking my arse!  What's the best strategy here?

Spoiler

I use my GBUs on the BTRs for the first contact, then kill the truck and infantry with rockets.  When we go to the second contact I can avoid SAMs until I attack, but when I roll in to drop my MK-20s (or naval equivalent) on the Grads I just get shredded.

Maybe I'd be better using the MK-20s on the BTRs, but then I've only got two GBUs to take out three Grads, which means a rocket pass or something, in which case I'll get shredded!

Any ideas?

Going from memory, been a while since Iast flew this one...

Use your unguided weapons on the attacking force at the start.  Save your GBUs for the Grads so you can stay high out of MANPAD range.  I think careful bomb placement will let you get more than one target with a bomb IIRC.

The Bekkaa valley portion is supposed to be highly dangerous though, so it is optional for that reason.

Mission accomplished there then!

Thanks for the hints, I hope to be back later reporting success...

Spoiler

Extremely difficult mission, I've died 10 times, the clouds get in the way a lot on target 2.

Target 1 I only use the rockets, on 2 the GBU`s.

however, still very difficult.
SA-9 on site getting in the way a lot.

Yeah, this is difficult mission, even very. I got hit many times but I managed to finish it. What I noticed about the manpads or the SA-9 when bombing in CCIP mode is the attack speed. The higher the number, the greater the chance of survival. Of course, there are also other components: attack direction, etc.
This is my try 🙂

EDIT UPDATE: Found em. I think they are technically NE of the given WPDSG point, which was throwing me off. Also, I know it goes against the designer's intent, but if you are struggling with this mission, just find the mortars and blow them up. The forces will retreat immediately and you can save yourself some time if you are struggling like I did with the Lebanon portion of the mission.

***This has been my favorite campaign to date for the FA-18! ***

I guess I'm having an issue locating the GRAD trucks. The very first time I did the mission I was able to locate them, but I didn't understand the V pattern vs the straight pattern, and ended up shooting my wad at wingman's target (also because he barely made a dent). It wasn't until he said "They're gonna launch soon!" that I realized I needed to engage other trucks.

I'll keep trying. Coming from an A10, I'm having a REALLY hard time with the FLIR visual location element of the FA-18. It's quite... squinty? Should I be employing ground radar instead? I believe he stated "Clearing west of the coords" but I'm at a loss.

Also, I was wondering, is it possible to have your NPC wingman TARGET something but not engage it? Wouldn't it be amazing if you could have your wingman's target show up on your HMCS?

Thanks glad you've enjoyed the campaign!  There's no sure fire way of getting the wingman to target something without engaging, I agree would be a great addition.  There's a few workarounds I used in subsequent campaign but they're hit and miss.  Maybe it's a feature we'll get one day as ED works on data link features.
