From what I've read, ED has chosen not to release the terrain creation tools. Is this true, and if so why on earth not? I was very excitedly planning on creating new missions with custom modelled high detail towns! I've even begun work on the models. I can still release them as replacements, but that isn't nearly as fun. :(

I'm with you Chibawang, ED has created a sim that could be enhanced by some really talented people in the community and make this the best sim ever, only to let us down with strict controls on just about everything where we can be creative.

It is their sim, to do with as they please, so be it but I do not understand the mind set !

I'm pretty sure you can create terrain for this sim.

Obviously from reading that, it looks like ED wants you to submit it to them and then it would be released to the public. At first I get the impression that it's a "control freak" thing, but since this sim has a multiplayer aspect to it, you want everyone to have the exact same version. This is critical or you will end up with a dauntingly huge list of mods requirement before playing online.(Sadly lots of games have become like this)

I would contact them directly and explain what you would like to do and what requirements need to be met. Look forward to flying your terrain!

Thanks for that link Chukk. Thats new to me and confirms what I thought, ED are out to keep close control on every aspect of the games development. Not sure I want to get into contracts etc with ED over simply little improvements to the sim, it's just a game after all (I know, I know - go wash my mouth out with soap !!)

AND - I had not even thought about the on line aspect, a very fair point, it would soon become impossible if we all had free reign to do what we liked.

Always looking for ways to make it look real, scenery is my thing and I still think the basics could be an awful lot better if they let us loose on it.

I'll contact ED, thanks Chukk.

I think that's the way to go to get rid of any misunderstandings. If they see you fit, there should be no problem with you creating terrain.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.
