I know a desktop system is best (which I have) but would like to upgrade my laptop to something that will run this amazing SIM when I travel.

Was thinking about this, upgrading the RAM to 64 and adding a 2 TB M2 SSD

It might help to know:

When you are travelling, what do you plan to use for your throttle and stick/collective controllers ?

What modules do you plan to fly ?

I have an older Saitek Evolution stick and probably just the F/A-18C. Probably take my TrackIr and clip.

If and when I replace my current HOTAS set up, the old ones will go to the other house, which is what I mean by "traveling".. LOL

Main goal is to practice earning flight pay by crashing, which is all any airdale can hope for .. virtual or otherwise.

I have an Alienware X17 with the 3070 mobile card as I spend a lot of time overseas.  I have a Rift S which comes with me, and a cooling stand, which I'm not sure is absolutely necessary for this laptop (but was for my previous one), but they are cheap and light so why not.   It runs very smoothly (even in VR), but I am not afraid to dial settings back to increase performance, and I'm 99% single player.  I use an Xbox controller which is actually a really good HOTAS alternative, let me know if you need help with any 'creative' mapping.

Laptop Pilot. Alienware X17, i9 11980HK 5.0GHz, 16GB RTX 3080, 64GB DDR4 3200MHz, 2x2TB NVMe SSD. 2x TM Warthog, Hornet grip, Virpil CM2 & TPR pedals, Virpil collective, Cougar throttle, Viper ICP & MFDs,  pit WIP (XBox360 when traveling). Quest 3S.

Wishlist: Tornado, Jaguar, Buccaneer, F-117 and F-111.

Thank you so much for the response. I really do appreciate it.

I just added a Radeon RX 6950 XT to my home rig and the improvement is amazing.

But a laptop similar to your your's might be great for the second house or for traveling overseas.

Gonna have to check out that XBox controller option too

How much GPU ram with your 3070?

Mine's the 16GB card.

nullHere's my Viper map for the Xbox controller, which I think works really well.  The blue are common to most aircraft, so I only need to remember a few when switching between them.

Many years ago I ran DCS on a laptop. I don't recommend it and I haven't bothered looking into current day laptops for this task. However I want to point out that cooling will probably matter a lot. Along with getting the right CPU and GPU, look for laptops designed to play games that have adequate airflow.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

Win 10 i5-9600KF 4.6 GHz 64 GB RAM RTX2080Ti 11GB -- Win 7 64 i5-6600K 3.6 GHz 32 GB RAM GTX970 4GB -- A-10C, F-5E, Su-27, F-15C, F-14B, F-16C missions in User Files

Laptop owner here. Cooling paste on GPU/CPU was a stone after 1 year of DCS.

I repasted it and brought temp 10 degree down.

Have that in mind.
