rapid Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 would i lose an install if i uninstall BS and move it to another hard drive - on same computer and re-install it? My key will still be in my registry but will it be mapped to my c: drive and not able to verify the fresh install on my other drive thus loosing a install.:helpsmilie: Asus ROG Crosshair Hero VIII , Ryzen 3900X, Nzxt Kraken Z73, Vengence RBG Pro DDR4 3600mhz 32 GB, 2x Corsair MP 600 pcie4 M.2 2 TB , 2x Samsung Qvo SSD 2x TB, RTX 3090 FE, EVGA PSU 800watt, Steelseries Apex Pro. Macka Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) I am not sure if in that case you would lose the activation but just in case, use the deactivate function for starforce (http://www.star-force.com/support/users/deactivate/). From the FAQ: "If StarForce detects changes to your computer hardware/software as described below, an activation will be required. The English version includes 8 (eight) activations and 10 (ten) deactivations. It's important to note that deactivations are utilized to save your activations when altering your PC hardware/software. Before conducting a PC upgrade/OS re-install, you can deactivate the product and when complete, reactivate without a loss of activations. http://www.star-force.com/support/users/deactivate/ An activation will be required if the hardware/software changes exceed 12 points as rated below: CPU ID: 13 Windows PID: 3 Computer Name: 3 Hard drive volume serial number: 3 MAC address: 6 RAM amount: 6 If you just uninstall Black Shark and then reinstall it again on the same PC without reinstalling your operating system or changing hardware, you do not need to use a deactivation." According to the above if you change your hard drive its only 3 points out of the 12 allowed???? Hmmmm!!! :) You can deactivate each of your provided 8 activation serials 10 times. So you can actually move, reinstall upgrade etc approx 80 times total before you need new activations. Incorrect then.I stand corrected DOH! BUT you must do the process correctly as per the instructions. When you deactivate you are given a code to re enter in conjunction with you current activation when you reactivate....dont lose the code number. I blundered through on one reactivation and forgot to input the deactivation code I was provided....doh! so it used up a new activation serial. Not to worry because when I reinstalled on my laptop I went back to the lst activation serial in conjuntion with the deactivation code I originally was provided and it approved no problem. Now I have Eng version on my Win7 Hdd, an unactivated Eng version on my Vista Hdd and the activated RU version on my laptop. And I am sure I will use up most of the deactivations just in time for DCS:A10 :) Edited January 29, 2009 by Macka There we were....two against a thousand.....so what'd we do....Shotem' both!!!! Nate--IRL-- Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I have moved the BS install folder and all is well, however I did leave the original folder in place but empty. Try it. Macka you get 10 deactivations in total not 10 per activation. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

Actually, just drag the eagle dynamics folder to the other drive and then change properties of shortcut to reflect that change both Target and Start in needs to be edited.
rapid Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 will that affect the data in the registry? will the data/key stored in the registry still be looking to c: drive ? congo Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 will that affect the data in the registry? will the data/key stored in the registry still be looking to c: drive ? I can't answer question about registry but I don't think starforce inputs into registry I think it communicates with the executable. I did this on my system because I wanted swap file and BS on different physical drives. I have never had a problem running it either from C or E. I tend to let it rest on both drives because I play with modding so this allows me to modify one but always have the stock one in case pray tell I screw up.
Bonkers Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) Like Congo, I copied my BS installation (the Eagle Dynamics folder) to the root of my d: drive, adjusted the target path in the properties of the desktop shortcut and BS runs fine. The first time you run it from the new location it behaves as if it is being run for the first time, so you will have to set your options to your preferred settings. If you want to preserve your logbook and campaign progress then copy over your Players.lua file from the original \Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\Logbook folder. Also amend the Start in field in the shortcut properties. Edited January 29, 2009 by Bonkers
