Jester locking friendlies when commanded to lock enemy ahead

Am I misunderstanding the Lock Enemy Target Ahead or is the command not functioning as the name suggests? In MP I regelurly instruct Jester to Lock the enemy ahead (thus trying to avoid locking a friendly) but even though Jester regularly refuses outright (presumably because he has no confirmed enemy on radar) when he does lock a target he follows that up by shouting out that it is a friendly. Very useful mention when the Phoenix has just left the rail... Am I using this function incorrect or is the command not working as intended? I'm quite new so it could well be my misunderstanding.

AMD Ryzen 5700X3D, RX7900 XTX, 48GB 27" 1440P monitor and Oculus Quest 2. WinWing Orion 2 w/ FA18 throttle, VKB Gladiator EVO w/ F14 grip, Logitech G rudder pedals, TrackIR 5, WinWing MFD (2x), WinWing UFC and Voice Attack.

Planes: F14A/B Tomcat, mostly the B, F/A 18 C Hornet, F4E Phantom II, F16 Fighting Falcon

Modules/ maps: Super carrier, Nevada, Persian Gulf, Kola

I believe Jester is a bit bugged. He IDs NATO aircraft as friendly even if they are enemy coalition. He IFFs them properly, and so does the AWACS, so just ignore those "we locked a friendly" call outs, and reference the HAFU symbology.

Thanks for the information. Then i'll try to learn to look at the radar before firing.

I just turn off the visual friendly callouts, and rely on IFF or my own Visual ID.

But I keep the callouts of the aircraft type eg "That's a Flanker" etc, then make my own judgement based on which server I'm on.

I uploaded what I changed here hope it helps: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3329425/
