JG14_Smil Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) Hello, Manual says wind direction (ie 270*) is the direction wind is coming from. I also read of meteo wind reports, where the direction (ie 270*) is the direction the wind is going. It appears the sim uses meteo wing reporting(?). A helo in hover mode with AP HDG off will windmill away from the reported wind direction. I believe I remember the ATC giving opposite approach headings to winds I have put into missions. I would just like to clarify this so I can porperly do multiplayer flight briefings. thanks, Cary Edited February 2, 2009 by JG14_Smil
EinsteinEP Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I haven't checked in Black Shark but in real life, pilots get wind bearing based on the direction the wind is coming FROM. For example, a pilot on runway 16 knows he's pointed at 160 deg magnetic from the runway number. If the wind is 160 at 5 kts, then he knows that he's got a 5kt headwind. Hopefully this is how Black Shark implements winds, although it doesn't sound like it based on your observations (ATC giving opposite approach headings, heli "windmilling" to opposite heading). I've never heard of the weather being called "meteo" - maybe this is a Russian thing, hence the different convention? Anyways, good luck! Shoot to Kill. Play to Have Fun.
CE_Mikemonster Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) Well noticed. It always confuses me when meteorological reports do that [iRL] with the wind. 'A strong North Westerly' etc.. Reminds me of my Geog GCSE lol Edited February 2, 2009 by CE_Mikemonster Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
JG14_Smil Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) hello, I note that pg 2-63 of manual says PVI-800 uses 'meteo' wind direction for reporting. It seems the whole sim does too. This flies in the face of the manual (pardon the pun) that says to put your nose into the wind heading. (bug?) Cary Edited February 2, 2009 by JG14_Smil
AlphaOneSix Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Meteo wind is the direction the wind is coming FROM. If your PVI says "92 5" then you have wind at 5 knots coming from 92 degrees. “δ/V” (Wind direction/speed) button. Indication of the wind direction and wind speed. Used meteo wind direction (from) that differs on the 180° degrees from navigation wind (to).
Frederf Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I was just going to ask, what parts of the sim use meteo wind (from) and which parts use navigation wind (to)? What format (meteo/nav) does the briefing use? What format (meteo/nav) does ATC use? What format (meteo/nav) does the PVI use? What format (meteo/nav) does the ABRIS use? What format (meteo/nav) does the mission editor use? Trying to think of other instances where wind is stated.
JG14_Smil Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) thx AlphaOneSix. cleared up my misunderstanding. Meteo wind report is correct in the PVI-800. The Editor (and ATC) reports wind direction incorrectly, then. Edited February 2, 2009 by JG14_Smil
