LongbowDriver Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I'm a Warrant Officer just out of the Longbow course, but I've been into sims most of my life. I used to be in a Full Immersion IL2 squad. With the arrival of Black Shark I'd be very interested in joining a serious squad preferably one with other Army Aviators. Attack pilots would be best, but girlhawk pilots may apply lol. It's just my luck though that I'll be busy with an OIF rotation in the very near future so I won't really have the time to stand up a new online squad. Since beggars can't be choosers, I'd be interested in flying with any serious squad out there that already has a solid structure to progress newcomers etc.
AlphaOneSix Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 We have at least one other Longbow driver, Bradmick just recently made his CW2 I think. I was a 67R (now 15R), but I worked on A-models.
airea Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 What is a warrant officer and CW2? Pilot or gunnerman?
Feuerfalke Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 What is a warrant officer and CW2? Pilot or gunnerman? WO and CW2 are military ranks: Warrant Officer 1 (WO1) Appointed by warrant from the Secretary of the Army, WO1s are technically and tactically focused officers who perform the primary duties of technical leader, trainer, operator, manager, maintainer, sustainer, and advisor. Chief Warrant Officer 2 (CW2) CW2s become commissioned officers by the President of the United States. They are intermediate-level technical and tactical experts who perform increased duties and responsibilities at the detachment through battalion levels. Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) CW3s are advanced-level experts who perform the primary duties of a technical and tactical leader. They provide direction, guidance, resources, assistance, and supervision necessary for subordinates to perform their duties. They primarily support operations levels from team or detachment through brigade. Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) CW4s are senior-level experts in their chosen field, primarily supporting battalion, brigade, division, corps, and echelons above corps operations. They typically have special mentorship responsibilities for other WOs and provide essential advice to commanders on WO issues. Chief Warrant Officer 5 (CW5) CW5s are master-level experts that support brigade, division, corps, echelons above corps, and major command operations. They provide leader development, mentorship, advice, and counsel to Warrant Officers and branch officers. CW5s have special Warrant Officer leadership and representation responsibilities within their respective commands. AlphaOneSix Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 In the U.S. Army, the vast majority of aviators are warrant officers. Also, for the Apache, both front and back seater are the same job title, but the pilot in the back seat is usually the pilot in command and usually has more experience and is usually higher rank (I use "usually" a lot because there are always exceptions to the rule). One exception is that commissioned officers (lieutenants, captains, etc.) rarely (not never, just rarely) fly in the back seat of the Apache, and usually "command the battle" from the front seat, while the back seater is the pilot in command of the actual aircraft. The rank structure in the post above is correct for many warrant officers in the military, but it doesn't apply very well to aviators.

Like I said my time will be at a premium but it would be cool to get into this sim around some Army guys. Let me know your squad info, you can PM if you don't want to broadcast it.
AlphaOneSix Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I'm not in a squad at the moment, I'm in A-stan and my Internet connection is crap, so I have not bothered trying to get into one. There are several links to various online squads in the multiplayer forum, which may or may not catch your fancy. Take care and keep the dirty side down!
Flim Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I'm in Ar and a corporate pilot , not heli, but I would fly with you. I was think if building a squad here in the US.
bradmick Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Yup, i'm a Longbow driver. You said you just finished the 64 course? I've probably seen you around B-Co. Drop me a PM if you're so inclined. Brad
